Norton AntiVirus 2007 blocks viruses and spyware with advanced protection. It automatically detects and removes viruses, spyware, unwanted adware, and Internet worms, and provides protection updates. Your purchase provides a full year of protection with regular updates from Norton to combat the latest Internet threats. The purchase of this product contains licences for 3 individual users.
The 2007 version includes the new Security History feature to let you review detections and other actions taken by Norton AntiVirus. Also new for this release is Cookie Tracking Support, which gives you the ability to remove detected tracking cookies.
The improved user interface in AntiVirus 2007 contains a convenient, centralized location where you can review detections, items repaired, and action required. View larger. |
The new Security History is a convenient, centralized location where you can review detections and other actions taken by Norton AntiVirus. AntiVirus 2007 continues to offer Auto-Protect, Worm Blocking and more alerts. It also provides the option to allow Norton AntiVirus to automatically take action or be alerted prior to taking action. This "set-it-and-forget-it" solution lets you view alerts when you want to, so you can let Norton AntiVirus take care of the rest. At your convenience you can visit the Security History to view detections made and actions already taken by Norton AntiVirus.
Tracking Cookie Support is also new for AntiVirus 2007. Upon scanning the system, tracking cookies will be detected and you will have the option to delete tracking cookies or ignore them. For some sites, you may want to allow cookies so that you don't need to sign into the site each time you visit it. But other cookies you may want to delete, such as those from third-party advertisers.
Internet Worm Protection has been enhanced for 2007 so that it now protects against entire categories of spyware, viruses, worms and Trojan horse programs. Rather than block individually identified threats, this feature now matches individual but unknown threats to known worm and virus families and blocks them from installing on the system without requiring specific virus or worm signatures, giving you zero-hour protection. This technology helps protects against new spyware, viruses and worm threats before they are even created.
Rootkit protection has been improved for AntiVirus 2007 to better guard against hidden threats such as rootkits, a type of virus that exhibits no discernible symptoms in order to evade detection. Previous versions of Norton AntiVirus already protect against user mode and application level rootkits. Leveraging VxMS technology acquired by Symantec through its merger with Veritas, Symantec has increased detection of emerging stealth threats by including patent-pending rootkit protection at the deepest level within the operating system. This protects against kernel mode rootkits that have dropped a driver onto the system. These threats may be invisible to Windows or other security software, but can be detected and removed by AntiVirus 2007.
Norton AntiVirus protects your computer with three distinct types of scans.
- The Preinstall Scan detects and cleans spyware, viruses and worms on an already infected system. The enhanced pre-install scan now detects and removes high-risk spyware before AntiVirus is even installed.
- QuickScan runs invisibly after you receive new virus definitions from Norton. QuickScan helps ensure that your computer is fully protected against even the newest threats. QuickScan has now expanded to search for other areas on the system such as "My Documents" and other areas of common infection.
- Full Scan is a full-system scan that now includes a foreground and background throttling mode. The background throttling mode performs the scan using less processing power so users can continue working on their system without major performance impacts.
The Norton Protection Center has been completely redesigned to communicate security status simply and efficiently. You can browse easily through each drop-down category to view the status of the category’s security features. Overall computer status is always visible via the Norton Status icon on the taskbar or in the Windows system tray icon.
The improved Auto Protect Blocking detects and blocks incoming viruses, spyware and unwanted adware threats as they attempt to install and execute on your system. Auto Protect Blocking now blocks both threats and high security risks from ever installing on the system. It is always running invisibly in the background to protect your computers. The easy "install and forget" feature keeps you from having to make constant security decisions to keep your computer safe and protected.
Packer support has also been updated for 2007 to protect against virus hidden in compressed files or other masking technology. Many virus writers use packer tools to package up a virus such that the virus becomes difficult to detect. Sympack will now focus on unpacking the virus so that it can be detected.
Customer Reviews
Lousey customer service
I bought Norton Anti Virus,Systems Work Basic, and Firewall as well thier backup software. I had problems with my PC and had to reload this software several times. I then was asked by the software to go on line and activate the software. I had it on the pc for several weeks. To make a long story short after many attempts to activate the software on-line via the server and by telephone I was told I had to many installs. I contacted customer service and was told that the server would not activate me because I had install the software to many times. I paid good money for these applications and I feel I should be able to load them onto my PC as many times as I like. Now I am out all this money and have no protection for my PC. Good By Norton who I used since DOS days. I will look elsewhere for products which supply the same service!!!
Poor customer support .Be prepared to pay to get their programs to work.
Symantec is trying to produce better products this year. However their tech and customer support is very very poor out of India. Symantec is set up to charge first and talk later. This has cost symantec customers much grief, and many failed installs,to boot!!.I have a copy of 2007,but uninstalled when my computer crashed. They tried to charge me,but i refused. When you have a failed install or older versions on the machine, you need to use Their special clean-up tools.I would wait a few months for symantec to iron out this years bugs.Thank you Stewart L.
Fatal Incompatibility Problem
I've been a loyal Norton anti-virus & utilities software customer since the stone age, but like several other reviewers, I'm deeply disappointed that Norton Internet Security 2007 is incompatible with ZoneAlarm Pro, Sunbelt CounterSpy, and Microsoft AntiSpyware, and even more deeply disappointed that I had to crack the shrinkwap to find that out. Once upon a time, Norton was the epitome of well-designed, thoughtful, customer-centric software, but they've degenerated into outsourced hacks trading on a well-established name. I'll be returning Symantec's software if I can, and buying ZoneAlarm's A/V package instead.
