Television crime reporter and full-time mother tells it like it is in this raw, irreverent collection of essays--just what mothers are asking for when they curl up with a book at night after a seventeen-hour day. Amanda Lamb, a regular contributor to Dot-moms.com, lauded by the New York Times and Time magazine, writes about the reality of raising children, working, and keeping a family together, sharing some wickedly funny moments along the way.
"Parents will never get enough sleep until they're dead. Osama Bin Laden would come out of hiding if he could listen to your baby wail all night."

“Amanda Lamb is a hard-charging, pull-no-punches veteran television reporter. Smotherhood doesn’t pull any punches either. It is her story of the wrestling match with the demands of motherhood, marriage, and a very busy career, told in a way that is unabashed, honest, and frank.”

Must for Mothers, Hillarious for all
After reading this book, I was tempted to buy a copy for every mother that I knew. After hearing stories from my maternal friends- and reading this book- I 'understood.' For the people out there who are not mothers (or fathers) like me, this book was a hilarious account of all those moments you hear about at work and from your friends. There are passages in this book that alternately make you laugh and tear up at the same time- uplifting and feel good. I highly recommend to anyone!
Side-splitting funny.
In the tradition of David Sedaris, Raleigh, NC claims another great humorist. Maybe it's something in the water, and anyone who takes motherhood too seriously should take a swig. Lamb is honest, insightful and often poignant but above all, hilarious. The breakneck schedule of a TV news reporter and the nerve-frazzling pace of a new mother collide in this dynamo and the results will make any new mother, any veteran mother, anyone who has ever had a mother, laugh themselves to tears.
Entertaining for mom's only
We selected this book for book club because the author is a news anchor in our area. My reaction to the book was that it was laugh out loud funny. The chapter on vasectomy was really a hoot. If you are a mom in the Raleigh/Cary area, you will be tickled to see all the local references in the book. The author makes some neat observations about how busy kids are and how that impacts family life. (ex: mommy wants to quit ballet) . Many times I thought to myself - "That is exactly how I feel". Birthday parties and goodie bags are out of control. I did feel that the book jumped around from topic to topic and didn't really tie in that great, but the author has such a way with words and quick quit that I didn't mind. I feel that this book is only for mom's with young children. I don't think it is a classic book for everyone that is timeless. I wouldn't recommend to my mother or someone without children.
