Give it a chance...4
My initial reaction was, "this stuff is horrible" but that came after my two-year-old threw it all over the family room. Of course, it was my fault for thinking I could leave him under the supervision of his four-year-old brother while I changed my clothes.

After the destructive two-year-old went to bed, my four-year-old asked me to play with the Moon Sand with him. A few minutes later, I realized the stuff really wasn't as bad as I first thought. Yes, it's messy, no doubt about it. But on the upside, it vacuums up off of carpeting very, very easily.

Moon Sand is not Play Doh. You can't roll it out like you can with Play Doh. And you can't really use cookie cutters to make shapes like you can with Play Doh. I would suggest getting one of the Moon Sand play sets or making sure you have molds to use with it. When using molds, you have to pack it in really tight and kind of tap, squeeze, tap to get it out. And only very gentle pressure will destroy the item you just spent all that time creating -- Moon Sand is very crumbly.

I did find it almost therapeutic squeezing it into a big lump then breaking it apart and fluffing it back up. The consistency of this stuff is pretty cool. So, expect a mess and expect it's going to take a little practice to get the hang of it if you -- errrrr, I mean your kids, are used to Play Doh or clay. But, if your children enjoy crafty things or creating things with their hands, they'll probably enjoy Moon Sand.

I didn't care for Moonsand like I thought I would. The kids lose interest in it really easily. It is very messy and I don't think it holds together as easily as it shows on tv.

In response to some of the complaints to Moon Sand being messy. Well, yes it is. But with "Sand" in the title, I don't know how a person could or would expect otherwise. However, the molds that come in the larger kits, I find that the 'moon sand' molds very easily into them and pops out with a nice tap of the mold onto the kitchen table.

My 4 year old daughter loves playing with this stuff. Yes, she adores Play-doh too-but sometimes children want something different from the norm-to keep it 'interesting.' It is very AWSOME that it never dries out. I simply play with this with my daughter at the kitchen table. When we are through playing with it, I use a whisk brush and put it into an extra large Zip-loc bag for re-use. What spills on the floor is easily whisked into a pan and discarded.

This toy is not for anyone who wants a 'perfectly contained' toy to play with. I must mention that I honestly feel like Play-doh is just as messy and 'nuicansey' (is that a word, lol?) to pick up after. I always end up whisking up the crumbs off of the floor with that as well.

It's a matter of preference. I say tomato, you say to'mah-toe. It's just another alternative to Play-doh and a great manual manipulation dexterity toy for a young child. I highly recommend it as a supervised toy. It's fun to get into the mush sand, particularly whe you don't live any where near a beach.
