Product Description

For centuries mystical creatures of all description were gathered into a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite.

Kendra and her brother, Seth, have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws keep relative order among greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken -- Seth is a bit too curious and reckless for his own good -- powerful forces of evil are unleashed, and Kendra and her brother face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save their family, Fablehaven, and perhaps even the world, Kendra and Seth must find the courage to do what they fear most.

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile
The idea of special places where the world of humans and the world of elves and fairies intersect is nothing new in fantasy literature. But the idea of a preserve with caretakers to protect such places presents some novel opportunities. E.B. Stevens provides an earnest and engaged narration in the first nook of this new series. His narrative style is geared a bit for younger readers in its somewhat exaggerated air of drama in portions of the book that are not particularly dramatic. Nonetheless, Stevens keeps the story moving and captures the emotions of his youngest characters. His delivery is rich and varied, and helps the characters come alive. Fast paced, precise and perfect...a truly captivating tale. Look out J.K. Rowling...Mull, an outstanding new author to embrace.

SFRevu, Sam Lubell
"In an explosion of children's fantasy following the footsteps of Harry Potter…Fablehaven is a worthy addition to the crowd."

Great book5
My boys and I love this book. It starts a series that is hard to put down. Highly recommend it for young and old alike that like to escape into another world in their books.

a book my kid couldn't put down5
My 12 year old daughter is not a big reader, but this story she read quickly and did not want to put down. When she takes a book to read in the car, you know it is good. She's not a big fantasy reader and doesn't like it when there are too many characters and story lines to keep straight, and truthfully, it took her a few starts to get going in this book, so I hope it is kind of a break through book. She is on the second book in the series now and reads it whenever she gets a chance, guess I should order that 3rd one too. I realize it isn't much of a review of the book, but it lets you know that if your kid isn't a big reader, one good book can make a difference.

Great story!!5
I purchased the audio version for my husband who listens during his commute. This one was a hit because I would call him and he would say "I'm listening to the book. Can I call you back?" I've read all three books and they are wonderful. I plan on sharing the cd's with my 10 yr old next.
