![]() | Hamlet - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $11.50 Laurence Olivier's Hamlet. The Freud stuff is a bit dated and he might be a tad too old (as most good Hamlet's are), but his performance is one of the best on film.

![]() | BBC Shakespeare Tragedies DVD Giftbox
Buy new: $134.99 / Used from: $78.96 Derek Jacobi is an impassioned, incredible Hamlet. Clues to Branagh's Shakespeare approach are all here. A bit florid at times, but masterful.
![]() | Hamlet
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $4.99 Mel Gibson's performance here is easily the weakest of the film Hamlets, but he is surrounded with top notch actors whose presence elevates his own work.
![]() | William Shakespeare's Hamlet (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $15.95 Kenneth Branagh. It's way over the top, filled with ridiculous stunt casting, and his spinning camera makes one want to reach for the dramamine, but Branagh's performance is one for the books. As is Jacobi, Heston and Kate Winslet.
![]() | Henry V - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $35.99 / Used from: $9.50 Laurence Olivier's Henry V. A but turgid at times but Olivier's mercurial performance is always a delight.
![]() | Henry V
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $5.62 Kenneth Branagh's Henry is more cinematic than Olivier's, but the performances match character for character. A truly great Shakespeare film.
![]() | King Lear
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $15.53 Laurence Olivier.
![]() | King Lear [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Great Britain ]
Buy used from: $23.53 Paul Scofield's Lear is phenomenal. The film is dreary and dour, but Scofield's performance is incredible. This is very hard to find but worth the effort.
![]() | Richard III - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $35.99 / Used from: $11.75 Laurence Olivier as Richard Crookback. My favorite of Olivier's film is overlong, but the direction and Olivier's performance make it requried vieiwing for bard fans.
![]() | Much Ado About Nothing
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $4.69 Kenneth Branagh/Emma Thompson. Probably the most vibrant of Shakespeare's comedy's ever put to film. Everything is just right and very entertaining even as the actors acquit themselves marvelously.
![]() | Romeo & Juliet
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $4.00 Michael York/Olivia Hussey directed by Zefferelli. One of the true great bard films. Leads are actually the right age and they can both act. Michael York as Mercutio the cherry on top.
![]() | Macbeth (Fully Restored Version)
Buy used from: $9.94 Orson Welles as Macbeth. Uneven and sometimes hard to take with the Scottish accents, but the direction is often creepy and Wells is masterful.
![]() | Macbeth
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $9.03 Jon Finch (Roman Polanski directing). A brutal, realistic filming of Macbeth by Polanski. Great performances by all and wonderful direction. One of the best.
![]() | Othello
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.96 Lawrence Fishburne/Kenneth Branagh. A gem of a film here - well shot with Branagh's Iago masterful - and Fishburne acquits himself rather well. Irene Jacob miscast, but she's nice to look at.
![]() | Julius Caesar
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $4.62 Brando/Mason/Gielgud. Brando as Antony is a marvel to behold - not that he's a good Shakespearian actor, but the magnetism he gives to Antony is something to see. And it helps that he's surrounded by the creme-de-la-creme of British stage actors. Good film.
![]() | William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $3.74 Al Pacino does well here as Shylock and is surrounded by many capable performers. One of the better recent Shakespeare films.
![]() | The Taming of the Shrew
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.93 Burton/Taylor
