Customer Reviews
You think what you're feeling is some spell?
You'll be quick to find that this soundtrack is one of those rare cases where the music really does give you a sense of the movie. The music was obviously carefully picked to fit into all scenes chosen for it, and when you listen to the album, you will feel the need to pop in the movie as well. Every song (with the exception of perhaps two) has the never lilting but always haunting quality that keeps you inline with the feel of the film. This holds true from the beginning with Stevie Nicks performing "If you ever did believe" with Sheryl Crow, through contemporaries like Lisa Hall ("Is this real?") and Michelle Lewis ("Nowhere and everywhere") to classics like the strirring "A case of you" by Joni Mitchell and right back again to Stevie with "Crystal." Even the king of rock'n'roll gets revisited with "Always on my mind." it is surprising that the two uptempo numbers by Faith Hill ("This Kiss") and Marvin Gaye ("Got to give it up (Part 1)") aren't jarring after you've settled into the rest of the album but this is never the case. You'll find that it feels as if a spell may have been cast over you when you suddenly feel the need to watch the movie because you've listened to the music, or you "have just got to get that soundtrack because the movie had such great songs!" But then who knows....maybe it is a spell. They only have power when you believe in them, and this one......I believe.
A Case of You
I love this soundtrack. Every song is wonderful and spellbinds you! This soundtrack is enchanting. Stevie Nicks is at her best with "If You Ever Did Believe" and "Crystal." Other excellent songs are Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You", Michelle Lewis' "Nowhere and Everywhere" and Nick Drake's "Black Eyed Dog". Also, I must mention Faith Hill's "This Kiss"!!!! This an enchanting cd ... just like the movie! I have often listened to this soundtrack 6 hours or more at a time! It is THAT good! Buy it today... you will enjoy the variety of music on this cd and the quality and talent of the artists.
Just a Thought!
Well, after reading ALL the reviews, no one really liked BlackEyedDog, though the song invokes sadness in me at Michael's death in the movie, and everyone liked "This Kiss". I say "Go buy "The Runaway Bride" soundtrack (really great, but less deep), because this soundtrack was purely for the spiritual romantic". The Joni Mitchell song, the best on the CD, besides the Goddess Stevie's work, proves as much a summary of Gillian's relationships as a masterpiece. The other songs on the CD, be it the Elvis song or lisahall's "Is this real?" were all very good, fit perfectly with the whole disc, and were commendable. I too LOVE BranVan3000, and Michelle Lewis. Great CD, perfect for the "little witch in every woman"!
