Customer Reviews
Solid flick, amazing soundtrack.
See the subject line? That's my review, in its entirety. We were very lucky to have Howard Shore working with us.
Mostly I'm writing to answer the many (is three "many"?) requests for the Mooby lyrics. Here ya go. Thanks for digging the movie enough to seek out the CD.
Kev
p.s. I just saw the preview of how this post will look--the rough cut, if you will--and the lyric lines aren't formatted properly. Each verse is written out like a sentence. I'm sure you'll live, though. Bye again.
Who's a friend to the King of all the monkeys? Who's a pal to the duck who won't fly south? Who's the buddy of the Bible Quoting Aardvark? Who's the chum of the cat inside your mouth?
He is a cow! It's Mooby Cow! Oh sweet Bovine, our lives to you we vow! We want him now! That Mooby Cow! 'Cause we're all soldiers in the Mooby Troops, Ka-Pow!
Oh we'll all have some loverly adventures With Surly and the Pat-Pat Monkey King! And with Enoch and Little Eddie Dentures! We'll put smiles on the grumpies as we sing!
About that cow! Mooby the Cow! Who only moos when we beg and scream and shout! Master of Tao! Mooby the Cow! With only sacred enlightenedness allowed!
Great but not perfect...
As far as film scores go this is neither the best nor is it the worst either. What you have here is Howard Shore giving a Kevin Smith movie an epic feel. The music is very good and lends even more credibility to Smiths already wonderful film. It is very worthwile for Score fans. The main attraction here tho is Alanis Morrisettes "Still". Here she is in top form as she sings as the Almighty who she plays in the film. Alanis does not dissappoint here and gives one of her best performances vocally. Those of you looking for another collection of guitar heavy alternative tracks like the previous Smith Soundtracks should look elsewhere. Are you looking for a quality film score? Buy this. Are you a fan of Alanis? Buy this. Do you want a movie soundtrack full of diverse bands and music? Skip this... Dogma is a great CD, just be sure you know what youre getting.
I hate Alanis, but I LOVED this!
Although I cannot stand Alanis Morissette, I actually liked her song "Still." What saves the song are the lyrics and the awesome background music, featuring an electric sitar to create a sort of mystical, Middle-Eastern atmosphere. As for the rest of the CD, it's traditional but terrific classical. Several of the pieces sound like music you'd hear in a gothic cathedral, complete with a wonderful vocals by a choir. Others are lighter and more beautiful, like "The Last Scion," the end of "John Doe Jersey," and "A Very Relieved Diety." The only clunker on this CD music-wise is obviously "Mooby the Golden Calf," which you'll wrack your brains over trying to figure out the lyrics. However, it's great for a good laugh. What it all comes down to is that "Dogma" is a superb movie plot- and content-wise with a great CD! Get this if you love classical music and/or Alanis. That, or if you love hearing children's choirs on drugs singing a song with lyrics on drugs.
