A book for model makers, a book for posterity
In order to preserve the design of the schooner Bluenose in its full detail, Donald J. Oland (of the Oland family for whom the schooner Bluenose II was built) commissioned Commander L. B. Jenson in the early 1970s to produce a set of measured drawings. Many painstaking hours went into the project, including repeated visits to the ship to recheck measurements and many cruises during which all aspects of the rigging were recorded. The result is a magnificent collection of diagrams and sketches capturing the hull and rigging in extraordinary detail. The original portfolio of drawings was published as a collection in 1975. It was later expanded with material describing the building of fishing schooners like Bluenose and something of the business of fishing as she practiced it, resulting in this book: Bluenose II, Saga of the Great Fishing Schooners. It records for posterity every nook and cranny of the ship, and model makers will find it an indispensable resource, far surpassing any other presently available.
Outstanding history and diagrams
A true opus for all those with any interest in the great fishing schooners of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Jenson's drawings and accuracy equal those of Jean Boudriot, and are full of whimsical side drawings and commentary. Anyone contemplating a schooner reproduction, modeler, or boat designer would do well to examine these drawings carefully!
