They really make a difference!
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R37J6S56ULLLFS I previously used a pair of 16 oz (or maybe they were 14, it was hard to tell) Everlast gloves that I hated. They were all cheap foam and the black covering on them was peeling off. I even got a boxer's fracture from using them because they weren't keeping my hands tight enough and being foam made it much harder to hit the bag accurately. I also occasionally would get cuts on my hands from using my old gloves and bleed through them, it was terrible.
These gloves were a world of difference. They're definitely real leather and a month after I've started using them (at least twice a week for an hour at a time) I can still smell the leather (though I use hickory chips in a sock to keep the inside smelling good - you can use glove dogs). I used to be afraid sometimes to hit the bag because I knew a slight mistake could mean serious pain for my hand, but with these gloves I feel like I can do no wrong - a bad punch just means a light hit rather than bruised knuckles. I find the my weaker punches are really swinging the bag with these gloves whereas my old ones it would barely move the bag at all. When we roll with mitts I can hear a pop sound really easily with these gloves because of how good the density of the foam is on the inside.
Also nice is the gel on the palm that allows you to catch punches. There's no wrist strap, but they fit pretty snug for me (I got the 14 oz. in black) and so I don't think it'll be a problem for anyone. The black bands at the bottom can be used to help you pull the gloves on your hands.
I'm really happy with these gloves. The only thing I can think of that's wrong with them is the inside lining. It is a nice satin lining, but when hitting the bag really aggressively you may encounter a lot of friction that can cause redness on your knuckles. If you just buy some $5 wraps for your hands that alleviates this problem pretty easily, and wearing wraps on your hands under your gloves is standard practice anyway.
I know they're a little pricey, but they're definitely worth the extra money. The difference in quality between my gloves and those of some of my class mates is apparent even to my instructor. Plus, being a programmer I really need my hands - so if your livelihood also depends on your hands then these gloves are a solid investment to keep them safe while getting a great workout and having fun.
