Flip the bird
Truth be told, I have never been much of a Lil' Flip fan other than "Game Over". But I still decided to give his latest album I Need Mine a try. This album was actually supposed to be released back in 2005 but his label shelved it, and it's easy to see why.

If you're planning on listening to this album, make sure you don't have much to do for the rest of the day because it's hard to sit through. And it's not because most of the things that Flip has to say are uninspired; it's also because now he added on another whole album's worth of material on here, thus resulting in the whole thing clocking in at almost 2-1/2 hours. In addition, there are two remixes of remixes on here ("Fly Boy" and "You'z a Trick"), and the only saving grace to either of them is UGK's appearance on the second "You'z a Trick".

And Flip usually uses the same subject matter: either shooting people up or bragging about his success -- oh, and an obligatory song for the ladies (see the Mya-assisted "Flippin'", which features a sample probably best remembered from Heavy D and the Boyz' "Nuttin' But Love"). Speaking of that, though, guest stars are another issue. Nate Dogg and Lyfe Jennings do add nice hooks to the respective tracks "Take You There" and "Ghetto Mindstate", and Yukmouth sounds fine on "Stay Ballin'", as do Three Six Mafia on "3,2,1 Go". But most of the other guests fall flat, especially the boring hooks by some crooner called Big Shasta (see "The Souf" or "We Go Make It Out da Hood"). And as for "Sorry Lil' Mama", well, Z-Ro and Nutt definitely live up to their names.

Flip isn't all that when he's by himself either, as evidenced by the boring "Warrior" or "I Just Wanna Tell U" (and the noodle brand is pronounced RAH-men, not RAY-men; why can't rappers pronounce that?). There are also a couple of formulaic songs that fail to impress, like the shake-that-ass vibe of "Make It Shake" and the song with a message, "Single Mother". And on "Hall of Fame Graveyard", he gives props to deceased rappers, but he also zings himself when he asks why all the good rappers are dead while the wack rappers are still alive.

There are other bad songs on here, but I didn't feel like listening to 37 tracks worth of material again to pinpoint them. And when your album is that long and it isn't even good, well...I shouldn't have to explain anything else. Even though I only downloaded this Lil' Flip album, if you want it, you're welcome to it because I sure don't need mine.

Flip, Quit Releasing Your Outtakes {1 ½ Stars}
I can't remember the last time Flip dropped an album that wasn't a certified drink coaster. If Crime Knob didn't exist, this would EASILY be the worst rap release of 2007. You know something is wrong when I Mike Jones makes more than one appearance. Thank god I DJ and get albums like this for free. I mean, how can you listen to the rhymes on songs like "White Cup" or "Warrior" and call this a hot album? And even if you bought this for the beats, you have to admit that joints like "Play 4 Life", "Family Tradition", and "Hustle" are as wack as wack gets. This isn't even a hard album. I know some of you clowns try to hide behind that "hard" thing when you call this a classic, but he's afraid to mention TI's name on "Bustaclip" and he sampled Heavy D's "Nuthin' But Love" on "Flippin" -- yeah, that's real gangsta right there. The most ironic point of the album is when Flip unintentionally describes himself as what's wrong with hip hop on "Real Hip Hop". Flip is a clown and if you think this is hard, tight, or whatever, then you're either a minor or you need to ease up on the codeine/promethazine (look it up) & Sprite and clean your ears out.

There are maybe one or two tracks on both discs each that aren't absolutely terrible. "What It Do" features Mannie Fresh on the beat (the best beat on the whole album). "3,2,1, Go" has Three 6 Mafia on it and I'm a fan, so I dig that one. "Ghetto Mindstate (Can't Get Away)" stinks lyrically, but Lyfe Jennings provides a decent hook and "Addicted (Mary Jane)" has a decent beat. But nothing on the album stands out...not even the songs listed in this paragraph.

I Need Mine $$ is a godawful release from one of the worst acts to come out of the south. The lyrics are elementary and the songs are about the same thing every "thug of the week" is rapping about. You can only spin that so many ways and Flip isn't even trying to spin it anymore. He's just plain lazy. On a seperate note, could someone PLEASE explain to me what makes him the freestyle king? I'd imagine he'd have to be freestyling on every song he makes because I can't imagine anyone sitting down and putting thought into writing lyrics like these. I recommend siiting your drinks on this overpriced drink coaster. Don't even download it -- it's that bad.

i need mine aspirin after listening to this crap.
Its bad enough that this idiot lowlife clown considers himself a rapper. Its horrible that his dumb, retarded nursery rhymes which supposedly took 10 minutes to make (no surprise, they suck) are blown out of proportion by this idiot. Its just ridiculous that this moron considers himself up to par with Jay-Z and commonly associates himself with hip-hop.



Worst part of all, ITS ANOTHER DOUBLE DISC CD. of what, you say? CRAP. the same crap and horse manure you dealt with in You Gotta Feel Me. I didn't feel that album and i sure as heck don't and will not ever feel this crap.



pros of the CD? production is good, and... well... that's about it.



cons? everything that isn't production. erase the ridiculous ramble that this moron spews at you and you got yourself a great dance CD. Nothing that can be considered remotely lyrical will ever come out of this clown's mouth.



Here's what i don't get.



who told this nobody he's the freestyle king? what kind of contest did he actually enter to gain such a farfetched title? I mean, initially the first thought that came to mind was that he was battling against 1st graders, hence his lyrics are on about the same level, but then i figured even first graders probably school this nobody. Must be why DJ Screw died, he committed a sin and gave the idiot a title he's nowhere near worthy of. If he's an alleged freestyler, where's the proof? i mean, if he actually sat down and thought of the mother goose rhymes that showcase in this album and others before it, god only knows how much worse his freestyle is. The only chance he has in one is against mutes, and its a fair chance, not a sure one. This idiot really has no business being near a studio. This album is proof that no matter what he will ever say, he's retarded and serves no purpose in hip-hop and maybe even among humans.



if you're leaning towards some promising act from the south, look elsewhere such as in T.I.'s discography. Something actually worthwhile. Undaground Legend was EXCEPTIONAL, but still wasn't good. let's just say, that's the only album you'd consider spinning twice. By the way, the reason this is a double-disc and priced the same as regular CD's is because he knows that no one will pay over 20 bucks for his ridiculous, pathetic excuse for music. Let's be honest, most of us don't even want this CD if it was free, much less torturing ourselves by giving it a second listen.



To think i gave this album a chance. All he has is hype and even that will deteriorate, let's just hope its soon enough so we can move on. Its just hype, and he doesn't have anything else. He can commit suicide and the only acknowledgment he'd receive from me is a chuckle. dead serious.
