Q&A: Why should I switch from my can of shave cream foam to Hydroplane Shave Cream? Traditional foam shave creams are comprised mainly of air and tiny bubbles. These tiny bubbles provide the cushion between your face and a razor. Unfortunately, they don't provide much cushion or lubrication which often results in razor drag, nicks and ingrown hairs. Hydroplane Shave Cream, on the other hand, is comprised of millions of beads of water-soluble, micro-silicone. This ingredient provides much more lubrication which results in greater razor glide. How much product should I use? Apply a quarter-sized amount to wet face. Does it have a fragrance? There is no added fragrance in Hydroplane Shave Cream. 5 STEPS TO A GREAT SHAVE Shave After a Shower: The warm water softens hair for a closer, more comfortable shave. Wash Face: Use either a mild facial cleanser like Billy Jealousy's White Knight Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser or a couple of times a week use a scrub like Billy Jealousy's Sucker Punch Face Scrub. The scrub will lift hairs to prevent ingrown hairs from occurring. It will also exfoliate to remove dead surface skin cells that can cause razor bumps and acne. Use a Fresh, Clean Blade: A triple-or-more blade is great. Most of these razors last for 5 or more good shaves. Apply Hydroplane Shave Cream: Smooth the shave cream all over your wet beard. Shave in the direction of the hair growth. For tougher hair, re-apply shave cream and shave sideways or softly against the grain. Afterwards, rinse face with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. Apply After-Shave Balm: Your skin needs to quickly cool and restore moisture content. The best shaving lubricant I've ever used.
Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream is a lotion-style shave cream (ie. it doesn't foam when applied to your skin). According to the packaging, it's made up of millions of "micro sillicone beads". It does have a slightly gritty feel to it (though nothing at all uncomfortable), which makes the "sillicone bead" description sound reasonable.

Applying Hydroplane is pretty simple: just rub it into your skin after you've thoroughly moistened it with water, then shave normally. Hydroplane is persistent, so it won't dry up like some shaving lubricants, and it doesn't require any additional water after it's been applied. It'll easily last through your entire shave.

Lubrication, irritation protection, and nick protection are all excellent. Hydroplane washes out of your blade very easily, too, with one of the lowest gunk factors I've experienced in a shaving lubricant. As shaving lubricants go, I can find no fault with this one.

Hydroplane is a premium product in every sense of the word. A 236ml (8 ounce) bottle retails for $20 from the Billy Jealousy website (at this writing). The bottle's a good size, and it'll last a while (you only need a small amount for each shave), but it's still very expensive.

Overall, Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream may be the best shaving lubricant I've ever used (and I've used dozens of them over the years). It's expensive, but it's worth the price, in my opinion. If you're looking for a very close, comfortable shave with no irritation, Hydroplane is very much worth trying out. I am impressed.

Great Shaving Cream
Bought this shaving cream four days ago. I was kind of skeptical, and wondered if it really would be better than a can of Aveeno or Gillette shaving cream. Well, it really is good stuff -- it has made shaving much easier on my skin, and I will be using it from now on.
Also, this was about as much as I was willing to pay for shaving cream - I saw some other brands available at high end stores (selling for as much as $65, and I'm not spending that much on shaving cream), and they were basically the same as some "all-natural" products I had tried from the health food store for arount $7.00.
Billy Jealousy is really a great product.

Innovative, Effective, and DAMN Cool!
I've been using Hydroplane (along with the Hot Towel pre-shave treatment and Shaved Ice after shave) for just under a year now, and couldn't be happier! After reading a review of the Hot Towel in a national magazine (I believe it was Stuff), I decided to switch from a competing product, and give this brand a shot...

Hydroplane is great stuff! I can't remember the last time I had such a close shave with ZERO irritation. My facial hair grows in several different directions, and no matter what products I've tried before, I've always been faced with red face, ingrown hairs, and other various problems. Not any more!

You can actually feel the difference the silicone beads provide, as the shave is close, smooth, and comfortable.

Beyond that, the rest of the Billy Jealousy products have been superior to anything I've used in the past. I highly recommend the Hot Towel, which really is like getting that hot towel shave from a barber, along with the Shaved Ice, with it's nice, cool clean feeling afterwards.
