Making feet look awesome since 1917
Chuck Taylor Converse shoes are perhaps the only shoe that can mix classic, retro, and modern day appeal all into one. How cool is that? Pretty cool since the basic design has been around since 1917. Later on they got the Chuck Taylor insignia on them, after the successful basketball player from the early 1900's. Taylor was with the New York Celtics when they invented the "zone defense". Though the credentials and overall facts of his basketball career have often been questioned and doubted, the shoe he adopted as his favorite and eventually helped revolutionize, have not.
There are several great things about these shoes. For one, you can get them in any color combination you want. On the companies site you can even custom make your own. I liked the Black and Orange ones because I thought they looked great, and also were my high school colors. With that said, it will be interesting to see how many looks I get when I wear them in the annual alumni games. You want camo ones? Done. Wanting a simple, solid color? Take your pick. Flamed scallops like a 55 Chevy? You'll find them here also. Virtually any color or design can be found when getting a pair of Chucks.
I do think that a shoe like this is actually better for your feet than the gel-filled, air pump gimmicks that dominate the basketball shoe market today. With Chucks, your feet are extremely comfortable and also allow your feet to use its natural support instead of buffering it with "pillows", giving you better flexibility and range of pivot motion. I've played with mine on both asphalt and on the hardwood and I think it actually improves my game. Just my opinion, but I feel I can run and jump better, as well as have better floor traction with a pair of chucks than whatever the latest NBA endorsed shoe is. That said, I'm not in the NBA, but in the long run I can also attest that these canvas and rubber soled shoes LAST much longer than any other basketball shoe I have worn. That list includes Reebok Pumps and Air Jordans. For me, you are getting more than what you just paid for. Great deal on a simple shoe design that brings more solution to the problem than most.
Another nice thing about a shoe like this is the already mentioned style. You don't have to be shooting hoops to enjoy a pair of chucks. For the money, they are a great all around shoe. If you are just looking for switching footwear now and again (also an important factor with pediatric care) they are a nice pair of shoes to alternate with.
