Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Hardcore Honkey Tonk is the debut full length release from Speedbuggy. The album contains upbeat tough country rock tunes in the vien of Jason and the Scorchers or the Supersuckers. Produced by Steve Kravac (MXPX,Less than Jake) and Greg Hetson (Bad Religion).
Kerrang Magazine
Hailing from Louisiana, Speedbuggy are something of a revelation. The countrified quartet take pacy rhythms, down-home lyrics and twanging geetars to create a sound that is considerably more "Yee-ha" than "Oi", and consequently infinitly more interesting than many of the production line punk bands around today. Overall, it makes for an album that all but the snottiest punks woill dig, boasting the contagious spirit of America's deep south.
About the Artist
Speedbuggy were formed by Louisiana native Tim Gruse, and ex NOFX guitarist Steve Kidwiler. Both of these guys grew up on country music and punk rock. They got together with Brady and Pat in L.A. and formed the band. The group has played with groups like Bad Religion, and Fu Manchu.
Band members are Tim Gruse- vocals, guitar, Steve Kidwiler- guitar, vocals, Brady Sloan- Bass, and Pat Munzingo- Drums.
Customer Reviews
modern country just might survive.
i found out about SPEEDBUGGY while reading the fine magazine NO DEPRESSION. the new release, titled "hard core honkytonk" was a real surprise. most of the time, these new bands just miss the point but SPEEDBUGGY obviously comes from the real thing. i can hear it in the singer's twang. there were a couple songs that tried to reach the "alternative nation" crowd (why bother) but most of the record is red hot hard hittin' style country. wish these guys would tour, i guess they're from los angeles (?!?). this is a strong release and i would recommend it to you and yours.
this cd should be in every ones home
I found out about this band from a friend & he talked me into buying it . well im glad he did, i love it all, country song gets me going every time! cant wait to see them live
Cow Punk, Baby!
Timbo, lead singer & guitarist, used to be known as Timothy Michael Gruse when he played with Sugartooth. Rumor also has it that he briefly did time with Evan Seinfeld's Biohazard. Not sure if that's true or not, but there you go. You're up-to-date on meaningless rock trivia.
So I was pretty surprised when Timbo resurfaced with this outfit, Speedbuggy, & titled the first record "Hardcore Honky Tonk." "We're Talkin' Country...Son!" Not just country, but high-powered, meth-aided country. This record could not have had a better title. 10 blistering, alcohol-fueled cow punk treasures. Take all your favorite old-school country heroes, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, etc., shoot 'em full of steroids and Speedbuggy is what you'd get. Fans of punk, metal, rawk, alternative rock & country will all love what this Los Angeles-based band has unleashed on the public. Fire up the BBQ, invite over your craziest friends, make a liquor run & crank this record all night long.
