Review

"The Bahamas is the bonefishing capital of the world--but with so many islands, lodges, and guides, how do you find the lodge that is right for you? The first step is to study Stephen and Kim Vletas' descriptions of the best operations the Bahamas have to offer."--Fly Fisherman magazine

From the Back Cover

The new updated Bahamas Fly-Fishing Guide is a comprehensive guide to fly-fishing and vacation travel planning in the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos. Detailed descriptions of resorts, lodges, restaurants, guides, services, tackle, flies, tactics, diving, snorkeling, adventure, and eco-travel offer readers inside information on these breathtaking destinations.
The Bahamian fishery is thoroughly examined, along with historical, geographical, and cultural information that introduces the larger world of the islands. Graced with truly exceptional maps, as well as photographs of all the major locations in the islands, this book is a must for anyone - fly fisher or not - planning a trip to this exquisite part of the world.

About the Author

Stephen Vletas and Kim Vletas have considered the Bahamas their second home for more than fifteen years. After selling their fly-fishing company, Westbank Anglers, in 2002, they have had even more time to spend hopping from island to island to fish with their favorite guides, and to visit their longtime friends and fellow anglers. They have also been able to explore new areas in greater depth, including the Turks and Caicos, and to solidify their intimate knowledge of the magnificent saltwater landscapes that readers will find in this authoritative, important book. The Vletases are based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

THE BAHAMAS GUIDE4
Kim and Steve have done their homework! As a fan of bahamian fly fishing (and andros in particular) this is the one book I'd say that nails it. I learned a lot of things - including how little I knew. I also liked the specific details of where to fish - helpful since andros is SO vast.If I was going to the Bahamas tomorrow I'd have this book in my bag.

Awesome even for non fishers5
I bought this for my boyfriend who is a fishing freak for our trip to the Bahamas. I think I had more fun reading it than he did. These folks give so much information about the islands that I think it is a MUST for fishing widows and widowers. It changed our plans as to where to go and what to do. We fished and enjoyed other parts of the islands. I laminated the cover cause we wore it out.

so-so but there's not much else available3
This book isn't terrible - but could use some work.
** Disclaimer - we only visited Grand Bahama**

I expected the do-it-yourself sections to have some tips on where you could drive & wade out to fish, not just list independent guides instead of package deals. I don't consider hiring an independent guide to be doing it myself. Since our trip was not soley for fly fishing, we wanted to get a guide for a day or 2 & maybe do some independent fishing from shore on a couple of days. We did this, but with zero success on the days we fished from shore. Others (including both guides we used) said that fishign from shore could be productive. I had hoped that the book would have had soem tips for this type of fishing for each island. Or just told you if it wasn't a viable option for a specific island.

BTW - I can strongly recommend Captain Perry Demeritte, who is listed in this book - he was excellent.

All that said, given the selection of books available on this topic, this is probably your best bet. We also still had a great time AND got some fish.
