For as long as young men have been channeling, chopping, and hopping up rods and customs, women-whether loyal girlfriends or trouble-seeking 'bad girls'-have been integral to the scene. In this unique portfolio evoking great 1950s pin-up artists like Vargas and Elvgren, talented photographer David Perry depicts models in and out of cherry-picked rods and customs and wearing painstakingly chosen period dress and hairstyles. More than 100 photos present these modern-day pin-ups under three themes: Garage, Cruising, and Race. In addition, essays explore each topic and are accompanied by pulp novel covers, period mags, and ads that place the photography in a historical context. Captions identify the car owners, photo locations, and, where appropriate, interesting car specs and histories.

FANTASTIC
This is a must-have for fans of retro hot rods and pin-up art. The cars are very primal - no billet or Boyd Cottingham crap here. They range from rat rods to lead sleds to full kustoms, as well as everything in between. And the models are in period-correct clothing (or out of said clothing!). Perry has noted personalities from the art and rodding worlds contributing essays, including Rob't. Williams. The author correctly evokes the period without beating you over the head with it; he captures it matter of factly. All the cars are interesting, with info on the car and the pin-up model given. Naturally, these gals are scorchingly hot. Guys, this is the genuine article. You need this book!
Hot Rod Pin-ups
The cars are much better than the girls. The women generally are not classy looking. Maybe that is what David Perry had in mind. The cover shot is the best pinup shot. The photography is super.
Cars and girls
I hate to be a geek, but I was looking at the cars more than the girls the first time I went through this book. There are lots of famous hot rods here, rat rods and stylish customs too. But then, I noticed how cool all the photos are - Perry has an incredible eye for setting up a cool photo. Don't get me wrong, the women in here are beautiful and sexy, and I found out after reading the book (I paged through the first 10 times) that they are wearing vintage clothing too. But man if you love cool cars like me it's hard to decide what to look at.
