About the Author
Dave Nelson (Rochester, MI), Patricia E. Moody (Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA), and Jonathan R. Stegner (Clarkston, MI) together are the authors of The Purchasing Machine. Moody is also coauthor of The Kaizen Blitz and The Perfect Engine. All three authors are stars in the supply chain field. Moody was profiled in Fortune magazine as one of ten pioneering women in manufacturing. She consults for companies including Cisco Systems, Honda, Motorola, and Johnson & Johnson. Nelson is VP of Worldwide Supply Management for John Deere and led the growth of Honda's Purchasing Division, which earned the Medal of Professional Excellence from Purchasing magazine. Stegner is Director of Sourcing at Deere and has over 25 years in the field.

A Holistic Approach
A recent magazine article about Nelson's success sparked my interest in his methods. I acquired the The Incredible Payback to learn more of Nelson's purchasing and supplier development experiences and ideas. In this book, he details how these functions can improve the financial health of a business. His presentation is clear and comprehensive, covering many practices that have led both him and others to success. He shares cost reductions resulting from the implementation of these practices. He explains the critical role of software relative to his purchasing and supply chain management vision. I'm eager to apply the ideas that Nelson has presented.
