| Cherries: Cherries are one of the richest sources of anthocyanins, which have anti-inflammatory properties similar to some types of pain relief medications. A 2003 study published in the Journal of Nutrition confirmed that a single serving of about 45 cherries significantly decreased the body level of gout-causing uric acid for up to five hours. Coffee: Recent research has found that drinking four or more cups of coffee per day can lead to a 10 to 15% reduction in levels of uric acid in the blood for both men and women. A separate study involving over 45,000 men suggested that drinking large amounts of coffee can cut the risk of suffering from gout by almost 50%. The researchers report that ecaffeinated coffee seems to work as well as regular coffee. We recommend the decaf due to the unpleasant side-effects of too much caffeine. | ||
