Product Description

The Perky-Pet Hummingbird Oasis Feeder features six feeding ports, an ant moat and holds 16 ounces of nectar. Easily attaches to wall, window or post. The design is extremely efficient with its flying saucer-like shape that provides ample room for birds to feed. Don't fool yourself, the Oasis actually will be there for the birds as they travel across the barren desert that is your neighborhood, in search of food, ultimately landing at your house! The feeder comes with a brass hanging rod but may also be mounted on a pole. The clear, shatter-proof acrylic reservoir makes it easy to monitor nectar levels and unscrews easily from the feeder base for quick cleaning and filling. The feeder may be cleaned with the Perky-Pet Cleaning Mop. Remember to clean your feeder at least twice a week, more often in very warm climates or seasons. Perky-Pet is the leading supplier of Wild Bird Feeders and Accessories. Perky-Pet Wild Flower models are designed to resemble nectar bearing flowers, looking irresistible to hummingbirds when used in a flower garden or treeletting you discover the beauty and fascinating behavior of the elusive hummingbird.

"Our" favorite feeder5
My hummers had no trouble switching from the basic bottle feeders to this saucer, and I love it because it's the oh-so-easy to clean. The built in ant moat dries out rather quickly, but I basically fail to fill it anyway, and haven't had any ant problems at all. I now have 2 of these feeders, that hang from shepherds hooks, and there's no leakage problems whatsoever. Remember: change your sugar water frequently; every few days, to avoid spoilage. I highly recommend this feeder.

EDIT (04/2008): I wish this feeder came in 8oz, since I don't really need 16oz, and don't get that many hummers (unfortunately). But, I did also purchase a Hummzinger Fancy (12 oz), and surprisingly I just didn't like it. It was easy to clean, but was deeper than the PPO, which didn't appeal to me. I had put the Perky Pet on one hook on the south side of the house, and the HummZinger on the north side's hook. The HummZinger didn't get much activity, which was surprising since the hummers are used to both hooks having a feeder. After 2 weeks, I put the HummZinger away and went back to 2 PP's. Activity resumed on the north hook...

Considering both feeders are outside from April to November, and rinsed in hot water for every cleaning, they've held up well. No cracking, minimal color fading, no flowers have needed replacement to date.

Wow! 5
After reasearching all of the feeders, I was going to go with the Aspect Hummzinger but, I read that the birds have a hard time finding the flower since it was red like the rest of the feeder. I found this one with yellow flowers and decided to go with it instead. Wow, I had it out for less than an hour and I started seeing little hummers everywhere. I am so suprized! I had another new feeder out the day before that was a purple glass with a yellow flower and it was not even seen by the hummers. I am all for this feeder!!! Plus I am exiceted that it will be easy to clean. I don't want anything that I have to buy a bottle bush to clean. I am so happy already!!!

3rd and best feeder5
I purchased those expensive ($35) and pretty glass ones and they didn't work. This one works. Hummingbirds were feeding off of it in less than a week, and that's all that matters.

Edit (12/21/08):
I purchased a second one. The reason is that my hummingbirds are impatient (LOL) and they buzz around when I take down their feeder to clean it and put in fresh sugar water mix (see below for recipe). So now all I have to do is make the sugar water, pour it in the clean one and replace the clean one with the dirty one.

Sugar Water Mix recipe:
Since the sugar water gets moldy in a week and I like to keep what I feed the hummingbirds fresh, I don't put too much in the feeder. Here's the recipe for 1 feeder (make a bigger batch if you want to store the rest in the fridge):

1/4 sugar
3/4 water (this factors in evaporation when you boil it)

Either microwave to a boil or boil the solution on the stove. Wait for it to cool down and pour the solution in the feeder. (Use food coloring if you want to have some fun and give the solution some color ... lol.)
