With the entire United States map pre-installed on the included 1 GB memory card, you'll be ready to navigate right out of the box with a simple flip of the power switch. The GoPal is compatible with MMC and SD memory cards for even greater map storage. The external components of your GoPal are intuitive--you'll be able to set up your navigation system in no time. The front of the machine features a 3.5-inch color touchscreen display. Tap the screen with the stylus to select menu commands and enter information. The front of your GoPal also features a handful of manual hardware buttons, including the on/off, settings, back, options/destination, and zoom in/zoom out buttons. The navigation pad moves up, down, left, or right when you push the corresponding area of the pad and the center button confirms your selection. The pad offers an alternative to the stylus and is another way to navigate all of GoPal's informative, easy-to-read screens. Rounding out the front components of the GoPal is the system's loudspeaker that plays back music, direction commands, and warnings.

Navigating with the GoPal is remarkably easy. When you're ready to go, press the button for entering the destination (the button is indicated by a small flag) and key the address of where you want to go or select from thousands of preprogrammed points of interest (POIs). In a matter of seconds you'll receive the route information on the screen, along with spoken directions to navigate you to your destination. The GoPal is also equipped with an MP3 player that is easily accessible through the main screen of the system. Once selected, all MP3 files in the system--including those on a memory card--are automatically listed in the playlist and are available for playback. The MP3 player screen is stylish and features touchscreen play/pause, stop, previous/next, volume control, sequence (normal or random), equalizer, help, and exit buttons. In addition, you can switch between a variety of playback modes, such as repeat the current file, repeat all, single playback, and sampling playback. And the GoPal even enables you to customize playlists for those special outings.

The GoPal's handy stylus is stored in a compartment on the back of the system. You will also find the battery button (which separates the device from the battery for a hard reset), GPS antenna, and external aerial connection. On the side of the system you'll find the SD/MMC card slot, a reset button that restarts the system (soft-reset), a volume control wheel, and a headphone jack (3.5-millimeter). The bottom of the GoPal offers an AC adapter port for an external power supply and a mini-USB connector for connecting your GoPal to a PC with the included ActiveSync cable. This connection allows you transfer important mapping information back and forth between your GoPal and PC.

If your transportation passion lies on two wheels instead of four, the GoPal is also a great addition to your bicycle, motorcycle, or vespa. With a handy bicycle mount, you can attach your navigation system to your handlebars to give you extra help finding your way on the trails or the highways. The mount is easy to use and allows you to insert and remove the GoPal so you can move the system between your car and bicycle or simply take the device with you in your pocket.
