The LG LN730 utilizes a brilliant, 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD display with 320 x 240 pixels of resolution and 260,000 colors. This screen provides you with clear, selectable 2D and 3D map views and menus that are easy to read at a glance, and features auto zoom, and day and night views that you can manually switch to, ensuring you can see no matter what your lighting conditions. And not only does this navigator quickly display your routing based upon your user-selected preferences, but provides you with turn-by-turn voice guidance with 16 different language options, so you can keep your eyes on the road during more stressful driving circumstances.

Pre-loaded with complete maps of the United States and Canada, the LN730 comes ready for you to travel throughout North America right out of the box. This navigator even includes up to 1.7-million POIs (points of interest) so you can quickly find restaurants, gas stations, airports, hotels, ATMs, and other important nearby services, and instantly route to them with a simple tap on the screen, giving you local expertise at your fingertips. What's more, this unit includes a photo viewer that allows you to bring you family photos with you, or view your favorite pictures from the trip while you are still on vacation, and even play them as a digital slide-show while travel. The music player accepts both MP3 and WMA digital music formats, while the photo viewer can display either JPEG or BMP digital pictures. And though the controls and menu system are extremely simple and intuitive, if you need a bit of assistance, this unit provides a handy on-screen help system.

Works OK but no Updates3
I received the LN730 when I purchased other LG products, so I can't complain about the price I paid. This issue I have with this unit is getting updated maps. I have been digging around on message boards, all have the same message - No updates planned! There are alternatives to install third party maps, but LG should make this easy for there customers. Currently units are shipped with 2006.Q2 maps... Its now two years later....

It's a piece of2
This thing blew up on me just a couple of months past its warranty period. I'm not happy.

GPS is great. THIS GPS is awful.1
I bought a Garmin years ago. It was too big (because it's so old) to take on a trip that involved a flight out and a long drive back, so I took my father's LG which is not much bigger than a cellphone. It was better than having no GPS, but that's it.

Here are just a few of the complaints. It's not very good at it's basic job. It found my home address easily enough, but entering it involves something of a puzzle. Not so with the Garmin - pick your state and go. LG - pick your state, then choose your method of data entry (no joke), then have it tell you that street doesn't exist in that town, then drive there and have it display EXACTLY that street name as you drive along it.

And even though it found my address on the east coast as I was driving back from the west coast, it would occasionally recalculate and suddenly tell me to turn. I was driving a big truck so an unnecesary 10 mile detour cost me about $3 in fuel. It gave me two of those before I just stopped trusting it and relied strictly on a pocket atlas for my basic road plan.

Then there's the "navigate to a point on the map feature". Sounds great, but if what you are trying to do is zoom in or out then, unless you are a four-year-old, your fingers are way fatter than the zoom buttons. So you'll find yourself going "what the hell" because you just asked it to navigate to the point right next to the zoom out button.

The zoom sucks too. When it's on you can't zoom out when you are moving because it will zoom all the way back in. When it's off you have to manually zoom in and out as you get on and off the highway. On the Garmin you can zoom out as far as you want, when you slow down it zooms in. Makes sense.

And don't forget, you "agree" not to operate the device while you are driving. So, even though the ten degree field of view screen (possibly an exaggeration) has a night mode that's not visible in daylight and a day mode that might as well be a flashlight in your face at night, if you don't have a passenger you are going to have to pull over to navigate through the menus to change it. It'll take six accurate button pushes with your big fat fingers to change it. Those GPS satelites just sit there broadcasting the time. That's how GPS works. When the time equals dawn or dusk for that day why not have it change display mode automatically? That's what the Garmin does.

If you plan on turning it off and taking it in the hotel room at night (always a good idea, although a discerning thief will surely pass up the LG), don't count on automatically resuming your trip the next day. You will probably have to go through the menus to re-establish it.

This unit is so poorly designed that I will think twice before ever considering another LG product.
