Somewhat dissappointed/ World Nav. for Truck drivers
There are a couple of things that I wish were different about this device. First of all, during the day, it's really hard to view the screen because of glare from the sun. The manufacturer recommended purchasing something from Best Buy or wherever that would go around it like a "visor". Also, it doesn't give much notice before you have to take an exit. I was already on an exit one time when the automated voice told me to take the exit. This could have been from the reason below.
The first time I used it, it worked fine. The second time I used it, it kept stalling in the "route directions" mode. I called the manufacturer and they are sending me another SD card (the card that has all of the currect mapping info. that you insert into the GPS). They said that they had gotten a bad "batch" of the cards and that the new ones should work fine. Keep this in mind if you get one that has problems. Also, keep ALL of the warranty/manual, etc. paperwork in case you need to return it. You can't return it wouthout those.
Truck Routing on a nice size screen
I used to have a lap top navigation system in my truck. I think having all in one unit is a lot simpler. No booting time. WorldNav start right away as I start my truck. Routing comes up slower slightly then on the laptop but I understand why. The unit has most if not all restricted roads and low bridges.
Here is what I think
Advantages of the system
1. Easy to set up. System comes with all the maps for Truck Driving and for Car navigation
2. From the manual I can see that it is very easy to update. They send you a new SD card and you send the old one back
3. Screen is large
4. Rear view camera ready
5 FM transmitter to my radio in the truck
6. No need for external antenna although there is a jack for one
Cons
1. Screen has to be kept away from the sunlight or you will not see well
2. Warranty is only 1 year although I see that they offer extended warranty for 3 but you have to pay for it
3. Updates after 90 days are not free
I gave the unit 5 stars because although it can be improved they unit is the only one now on the market that offers truck routing and RV routing for such a low price.
Disappointing
We purchased this unit for my husband who is a a cross-country truck driver. While it works well on short trips, on more complex routes there are significant delays when there is a need to re-route, particularly in cities where there are multiple turns and street changes. It often takes the unit 10-15 min. to provide a new route. Not good when you're lost in New York City! Also, the voice commands are difficult to understand and even at max, the volume is frequently not loud enough to hear inside a noisy big rig. We bought the unit because of the truck routing software but are so disappointed with the other features that feature has become much less important.
