Great Vacuum
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first used the vacuum but I'm happy to say that it's one of the best purchases I've made. I've had it for about a month now and have not had to use my regular vacuum. I turn it on and let it clean, and it does clean. At the end of the secession, you see how much dust it has collected. It's easy to use, you just push a button. The battery life isn't very long, it may last 45 minutes, which is plenty to clean 1-2 rooms but it does take a while to charge fully again--You can't expect to clean the whole house in 1 charge. It does well on both carpet and tiles, and is able to move easily from one area to another.
I would honestly recommend this product to anyone, I wish I had bought this sooner.
Don't be skeptical
This is a really great product. The only reason I hadn't bought one before was the price point. After two weeks of twice a day use, I wish I'd have bought one sooner.
We have a multi-level house with tile, carpet, and wood floors. We also have two black labs that come inside at least weekly and three kids, so our floors need constant cleaning. This vacuum was the best investment. We can set it to clean one level while doing laundry or dishes and in thirty minutes, the floors are clean. After a couple of hours on the charger, the light is green and we can vacuum another level. It's been a HUGE time saver.
Pros: It really does what it advertises -- cleans automatically with no human interference. Relatively quiet (much quieter than a regular vacuum) especially on carpets. Battery runs for about 45 to 60 minutes, so it can clean two average sized rooms (about 900 sf) on a single charge. Goes in between chair legs, and under end tables where a stand up vacuum can't. Sturdy! Fell down our stairs twice without a dent or ding.
Cons: As with all vacuums, you need to clean up loose items, toys, shoes, etc. before you clean. With the Roomba, you have to watch out for things that you can avoid with a manual vacuum that the Roomba won't (i.e. cords, tassels, etc.) It tries to avoid stairs, but noses over a little and occasionally, it will fall off if it can't get good enough traction to back away. We use the virtual wall to keep it away from the stairs.
iRobot
I wasn't sure if I would like this or not but it is great. It easily goes from hardwood floors to carpeting and does a good job on both surfaces. I just run it in one or two rooms a day and recharge it. If there is a drawback it would be that it isn't quiet so I turn it on when no one is watching TV or radio in that particular room. Even my dog has accepted it. Now I am tempted to try the floor scrubber. I also worried it would tumble down the stairs but it senses the stairs and turns around....what will we have next?
