Unbeatable!
I am very very pleased with this watch. I am not a diver, but it is obvious that this is a true diver's watch from the domed crystal to the extension link bracelet. I believe that this one really would measure up to and probably exceed its 1000 ft. depth rating. It is rugged, good looking and accurate. I'm telling you this baby weights a hefty 6.0 oz. My only quibbles are the scantily lumed minute hand (which Tissot has already addressed - upgrades will cost you, though) and the end link rattle which I will eventually fix myself. I'm not alone in my assesement that this is a great watch. The readers of German Uhren Magazin awarded it second place in their "Best Watch of 2004" survey.

The watch with bracelet can be found at various internet sites for around US$375; slightly less with a rubber strap. In my opinion that's a great price for a watch of this outstanding quality. Consider the additional fact that it is a Swiss watch from a maker with a long, respected and distinguished history and I think you'll agree that it is a genuine bargain. If you go shopping for one, be sure to look for the 1000 which is an automatic. It carries the workhorse ETA-2824-2 movement. The Seastar 660 looks quite similar but is quartz. Its dial is a bit different in that it has numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock.

I own the Seiko Orange Monster, $200 and the Rolex Submariner Date, $3,750. But when I saw the Seastar I fell in love. It should be called the "Seamonster" and now is my favorite one. Also, Tissot has a 2 years world wide warranty and offers spare parts and repair service for 10 years for all watches.

-- Bracelet, case, weight --

The bracelet needed some additional adjustments and this is done with ease since the clasp already has 3 convenience pins in the buckle and two others opposite at the latch.

The bracelet extender for wet suit and jacket wear is easy to open, not excessively easy so no worries about the bracelet opening further and falling off while getting a farmers tan driving on the interstate.

Watch isn't too heavy for a large 41mm case, about the same weight as the Omega SeaMaster large 300m quartz (Omega Ref: 2541.80.00) and still lighter than a Breitling Colt or Airwolf (Breitling uses the HEAVIEST links you'll ever meet !). The weight savings in this Tissot is in the links, they aren't cheap feeling or appearing, just not overly heavy.

Adjusting the bracelet is straightforward, tension pins are used and any standard pin-pusher will work, the links are wider than most so a regular size popper is a tight fit but not impossible.

The characteristic Tissot angular lugs remain true in this SeaStar along with the crown guards. The solid end links are quality and honest to all modern Tissot bracelets, open enough to work on with ease by a skilled technician.

See through case back is well constructed and provides a decent view of the movement, nothing really exquisite compared to a Breitling Caliber 13 or 17 ( this thing costs a fraction of those and they don't come with see through backs anyway ).

The domed crystal is magnifying at every offset angle, dead on the reading is actual size, blue bezel and face are pretty for a watch of this price, the face isn't as iridiscent as Tag-Heur's and the bezel isn't as blue or refined as an Omega SeaMaster. In my opinion the bezel on this watch is the drawback, it has a cheap appearance while the paint and numerals and bezel pearl are precisely stamped and etched the blue matte finish is a poor contrast to the semi iridiscent face. The bezel pearl is flush like a Rolex.

The markers are well made and denominated by chrome finished with the trademark "T" at 12, numerals are double illmuniated coated at outer ends of the chrome markers and the corresponding face markers, no illumination on the bezel except for the pearl. Markers are so well polished you can see the underside reflection fo the seconds when when sweeping over.

The bezel is unidirectional counter clock wise and sixty clicks.

Time increments are printed for 1/20th of seconds from 12 - 3 then half seconds for the rest of the face. Large arrow hour hand and airplane second hand, the movement is impressively smooth at this price point, but not as smooth as an exquisite automatic movment, this watch still has less beats per minutes than a Breitling Caliber 17 so don't be surprised if the second hand seems a little "jumpy" but only under close inspection without a loupe.

Luminescense is decent for this price point, bright enough to read in the dark if the lights just went out in the room.

This model is just time and date so adjusting is equally simple, the screw down crown is larger than a Breitlings and easy to grip, no gasket is present on the crown screw like the Rolex triple seal (again, this watch costs a fraction of what is being compared to)pull to first position to manually wind, second position to adjust date, third and final to adjust time and sync seconds.

This watch isn't as accurate as I'd hoped, it is gaining 10 seconds per day, this will be acceptable to most owners but it is a point of note. We'll see if the movement slows as time goes by.

This is a decent watch for $590 USD MSRP, from two tables away it is almost indistinguishable from an Omega SeaMaster 300, sitting across the table from someone will garner their notice. If you have a SeaMaster or Breitling Colt and want to keep it looking like new than the Tissot Seastar is great choice for a daily wear timepiece.

Great Watch
I bought my Seastar 1000 a couple weeks ago as a birthday present to myself. A friend of mine who is a watch fanatic ( I think he owns like 30) recommended it to me. He is a collector of automatic watches and loves Tissots and Omegas. I searched all over the place looking for a Seastar and couldn't find it. i went to a store in the mall and the manager said they had sold their last one, so I left my number with him and he actually called me less than a week later stating they had one at a store about 100 miles away and they were going to ship it up for me to look at. I went in the following Saturday morning, he took it out of the box, and I felt like a kid on the morning of going to an amusement park. it was beautiful, heavy, big, and I picked it up and fell in love with it. It seems to keep time well, and I can go home after work and take it off and in the morning it's still ticking (unlike my other automatic which stops after about 7 hours). It's a big amd beautiful watch that I am proud to wear.
