Control Schemes to Fit Every Player
EA Sports' All-Play line of games specializes in making it easier and less intimidating for new players to hit the court and play against anyone, regardless of their own level of ability, by allowing them to choose the control style that best suits their skills. Novice players, more focused on a casual, quick fun, and better suited to a less intense learning curve can choose to use a All-Play's basic control scheme. Here one gesture and a single button press performs all the actions and increases your success rate in all aspects of the game. For example, having trouble deciding who to pass the ball to? You can let the CPU point you in the right direction with on-screen pass indicators and one-button actions or effortlessly take over the direction of the game with All-Play's 'Point and pass' feature, which allows you to dish out passes by simply pointing, resulting in controlled, crisp ball movement.

If on the other hand, you've squeaked through a few quarters on the hardwoods in your day, NBA Live 09 All-Play also offers a classic controller configuration. Just turn the Wii Remote on its side and take advantage of all the movement, shot and switching options you have grown used to over the years. Regardless, of how you choose to use the Wii Remote or your skill level, you will be lighting up defenders and getting stops as soon as you step on to the court.

You can even mix and match players and scrimmage in inter-league play. All on-court players feature authentic physical representations of the actual players, as well as jersey and other accessories identified with them. And when it comes to putting the ball in the hole, the game also includes significant play modes and functionality. Whether your thing is showing off your style, strength and skill in the slam dunk contest and 3-point shootout, developing teamwork skills necessary to win a championship in multiplayer 2-on-2 games, or just shooting around in the quick game of 21, NBA Live 09 All-Play has just what you need.

not really an improvement over 083
Yes the jump shots are more realistic looking than in '08, as are the end of game stats across the board. The computer seems smarter, and the addition of a simple alley oop move is a big plus. FIBA and WNBA teams are accounted for.

However, on the downside, the "diving for a steal" move is bothersome, as is the bland look of the on-court game and the unbelievable ease with which one can commit a turnover. One more bad thing - I've found myself many times stealing the ball or grabbing a rebound only to find my player shooting the ball across the court before I can think about a single dribble.

I miss the many team jersey options 08. Maybe these are unlockables?

I happened to notice that only some of the commentary by the announcers is new; most is recycled. It's more polished in the sense that their observations are more accurate for situations such as steals, out-of-bounds deflections, and so forth.

Will the game grow on me? Probably. Should they make another version for '10? Definitely. But only if it looks graphically more like the XBox versions, incorporates the new Dynamic DNA feature.

I still plan on playing this when I need a break from Madden '09 and Wii Fit. So not a loss. But it didn't shine any holy blue light on my video game adventures either.

Tons of fun for kids5
This has been great fun for our son and his buddies. It is a huge step up from the previous Wii basketball game that he has owned called "Kidz Basketball" since he can pretend to be a real NBA player instead of being a cartoon character with a funny name. It is very easy to score points and break records unconceivable in NBA; but while this can be a negative for a purist, to the kids it is a lot more exciting to be able to do so. The commentary in the background along with the arena sound effects adds to the excitement.

Very Good Basketball Game!!!!!!!5
Sometimes when people review a game, or anything else, there perception is tainted before they ever begin the review. For people who buy the new release every year, then this game may not be worth the money. That's fine, but I wouldn't expect the "same game" to be totally different year after year. Also if '08 was good and '09 is just like '08, then doesn't that suggest that '09 is a pretty good game as well. Now this isn't a knock on people who purchase the same game every year and I'm sure that EA sports is more than happy you buy the same game every year, but that is not me. That being said lets review NBA Live '09 based solely on NBA Live '09. I use the component high definition cable and the graphics are probably a B+. They could be better, but the colors are very vivid and it is easy to spot the players you know from real life. The game gives you the option of controlling it several ways, including using the remote and the nunchuk, or turning the remote sideways and playing in a classic controller form. But even using the controller in a classic way, you can still use the motion sensor for various moves such as crossover dribble and ally opp. I have heard some say that it is to easy to steal the ball and have the ball stolen, I have to disagree. The only time I have trouble with the ball being stolen is if I try to go to the basket and the lane is crowded. If I try to run through two or three defenders of course I stand a chance of the ball being stolen. One thing I love about this game is the inbound pass. The pass button controls throwing the ball in play, but other than that you are controlling the person the ball is being thrown to. This makes it very realistic and give you the ability to lose the defender when throwing the ball in for play. Overall I love this game and it is one of my favorite EA Sports games. It is definately worth $[...].
