I believe it's the best Nikon value and allows you the ability to grow for quite a long time before you would ever feel the need to upgrade if ever. If you were to buy the D3000 or D5000 you would eventually have to deal with some limitations that the D90 doesn't have.

Buy new: $124.95 / Used from: $105.00 I love prime lenses. I love f1.4 prime lenses. If you can't throw down $300+ for a single focal length lens, then you can find one of these for about 1/3 the price. Not as many aperture blades so you're not going have bokeh as smooth but still a good lens that will serve you well until it's time to upgrade and you can sell it for close to what you bought it for.

Buy new: $218.00 / Used from: $207.00 If you can't get the SB900, then pick yourself up an SB-600. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLASH! Sorry to yell that out, but you really need one. The on camera flash is good enough about 2% of the time so grab yourself some light to go with it.
