Amazon.com Review
This high-temperature thermometer takes the guesswork out of deep-frying chicken, doughnuts, and french fries or making jelly, fudge, or butterscotch. Its easy-to-read 8-inch face measures temperatures from 100 to 400 degrees F. The face shows proper candy-making temperatures, from "thread" to "hard crack." An adjustable clip on the insulated handle secures the thermometer to a pan. Made of stainless steel with a shatterproof plastic lens, the thermometer measures 12 inches long overall and is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Great until the numbers disappeared
This was a great frying thermometer until all the markings eventually got washed off. It lasted several months and withstood many washings, but then all the temperature markings just started disappearing...now I'm left with with a a thermometer that technically works, but is really worthless.
If you deep fry you must buy this
I don't make candy but can see how you would need this thermometer for that too. For deep frying, a thermometer is essential. This thermometer is well made and is a necessity for deep frying. I have a 15K BTU burner on my stove and even with that i'm surprised how much the oil temperature drops when food is added. This helps to maintain a temperature suitable for deep fat frying (350 to 375 degrees F). Any hotter, the oil smokes and any cooler the food absorbs oil and gets mushy. The clip on the back of the thermometer adjusts nicely to almost any size pot.
Expected more from Taylor
When I purchased this thermometer, I checked the calibration with boiling water, and found it to be spot on. But the first time I washed it in normal soapy water (no dishwasher; no abrasives) the ink legend came right off. Now I have an accurate thermometer, but I have no idea what it is telling me. I purchased the Taylor brand expecting their commercial quality. But this is more of a dollar store product. Stay away, and save your money.
