Teach Yourself Norwegian divides each set of vocabulary and grammar into lessons, complete with matching CD recordings, exercises, and even a little bit of cultural info. You have to keep in mind that the pronunciation guide is catered to British learners, but other than that, the course is very close to perfect.

While this CD-Rom is entertaining and full of vocabulary, there is one problem: not one of the words used in the program are written with their proper gender, and I don't think that any Norwegian program should have so little emphasis on grammar. Also, there are a few defects with the animations that are ridiculously annoying and, so far, at least with me, impossible to fix.

This dictionary is exactly like the yellow Langenscheidt version -- don't be fooled into thinking that they're two separate dictionaries. One is just as good as the other, and even the blurbs on the backs are identical.

Marketed at the typical traveler to Norway, the first Norwegian phrase book ever marketed by Berlitz is definitely useful even if you're not planning to go to Norway anytime soon. It's the best source if you want to know a few necessary phrases of the language, though you'll probably want a CD as well for pronunciation.

It isn't possible to praise Pimsleur enough. With its distinguished but easy method of repetition, conversation participation, and genuine interest in the language itself, this course works, and well. This is primarily a beginner's course, though, so if you can say things beyond "I would like something to eat" and "I speak a little Norwegian", you may want something different.

The workbook itself is an interesting and amusing way to go over vocabulary and phrases, stay interested, and even learn a bit of grammar. It's set up in a childlike fashion, but that shouldn't faze you - it just makes it easier to use and understand. My favorite aspect of the workbook is its emphasis on key words, or question words. These are important and you can't learn Norwegian without them!

This book is a fabulous motivational tool that belongs on the bookshelf of every serious language learner. The cleverly-written book gives advice on how to set up your linguistic technique, the best ways to memorize phrases, and even a detailed description of his own language history (He can speak more than ten!) Highly recommended.
