Let It Be... NakedLet It Be... Naked by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.97 / Used from: $3.95
This album doesn't have all the fancy production of the original "Let it Be" album. Paul complained about his songs being wrecked on the original "Let it Be"-- and it is now clear he was correct. The sound on this album is great.
Yellow Submarine (Songtrack)Yellow Submarine (Songtrack) by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.97 / Used from: $6.50
It may seem strange to have this album on the list. You must hear it to know why. The songs have been remixed and they sound much better than the originals! Listen to "Eleanor Rigby" or "Lucy in the Sky" to hear how much better the music sounds. The original "Eleanor Rigby" had Paul singing only out of one track.
The Beatles (The White Album)The Beatles (The White Album) by The Beatles
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $14.00
Although the Beatles didn't get along while making this album, you would never know it from how well it turned out. I have always thought this was John's best album.
Abbey RoadAbbey Road by The Beatles
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $7.08
The Beatles make their last album and it is terrific. George plays great guitar throughout the album. His compositions are as good as John and Paul's on this record. The return of George Martin to produce showed the Beatles wanted to make a really good record.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club BandSgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.11
The Beatles stopped touring and wanted to make a good album. This album shows what the Beatles could produce when they had their mind set on making a good record. The record is full of strange instruments and sounds as they wanted to break new ground.
Revolver [UK]Revolver [UK] by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.97 / Used from: $5.49
Paul was in a very creative period at this time. From 1965-1967 he took over from John who really carried the band from 1963-1965. This album had one of Paul's favorite songs "Here There and Everywhere."
Rubber SoulRubber Soul by The Beatles
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $5.25
For the first time the Beatles started experimenting with new sounds---such as the sitar. They really perfected their harmonies and were enjoying making music at this time.
Magical Mystery TourMagical Mystery Tour by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.97 / Used from: $5.97
This album was slapped together from sessions right after "Sgt. Pepper." Some of the songs like "Strawberry Fields" and "Penny Lane" belonged on Pepper but were pulled to put out as a single. This album has a lot of the experimental sounds the Beatles were looking for at this period. This album varies from terrific-- like "I am the Walrus" to average-- like "Blue Jay Way."
Help! [UK]Help! [UK] by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.97 / Used from: $6.74
The Beatles were putting out a lot of catchy tunes at this time. Their last album "Beatles for Sale" sounded as if the Beatles were tired. This album has the Beatles coming back to life. The making of their second movie was a challenge which always brought out the best in the Beatles.
A Hard Day's NightA Hard Day's Night
Buy new: $13.97 / Used from: $6.25
The first Beatles album where they wrote all of the tracks. John was really carrying the Beatles at this time. He had a lot of energy which seemed to fade except for a brief reemergence for the "White Album." I would rate this album higher if it were released in stereo. It was recorded in stereo but was foolishly released here in mono.
The Beatles 1The Beatles 1 by The Beatles
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $2.44
This is a great intro to the Beatles. Even for those who already own the records, the chance to hear "A Hard Day's Night" and "Can't buy me Love" in stereo make it worth the purchase. Also, the "Day Tripper" version doesn't have the audio drop out after the guitar solo. It is too bad it doesn't include "Strawberry Fields."
