With Meltdown, Justin Roberts takes his rightful place among the triumvirate of truly exceptional current kids' artists. While he is hanging around high-fiving fellow greats Dan Zanes and Ralph Covert, though, do yourself a favor and dig into this disc: if "My Brother Did It" doesn't win you and your 6-year-old over with its right-on depiction of the classic sibling rat-out, the m-m-m-melody of the rockin' title track will. That's always been the deal with Justin Roberts' CDs--push aside the lyrics, and the all-out party of his playing and singing snares you till the final track. Block out the skillful musicianship, on the other hand, and you're still left with some of the most inspired and intelligent kids' lyrics ever. Case in point: "Get Me Some Glasses." Of the third-grade meanies who would cast our 8 year-old-at-heart singer a four eyes, he offers this useful observation: "They don't understand that there wouldn't be a Superman/Without Clark Kent/To an extent." Basic, bright, and deceptively brainy--they're the Justin Roberts hallmarks. Meltdown cooks them into something way more than palatable; 4- to 9-year-olds and their music-savvy parents will want to heap this onto their plates. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews

Great kids' music5
We really enjoy Justin Roberts and have even seen him in concert. It is kid's music I don't mind listening to. My personal favorite is Cartwheels and Somersalts.

CATCHY!5
I bought it for my year old twins, but my husband knows all of the words! Very catchy and fun.

Very cute, but not my personal fave3
Nice job Justin Roberts - cute CD (but I like the They Might Be Giants kids CDs much better... can't articulate why, just do).
