Product Description

This thorough and updated revision of Donigian and Malnati's 1987 text gives counselors and counselors-in-training a unique look at leading group therapists. Theories come alive as twelve leading theoretical practitioners such as Albert Ellis, Victor Yalom, Yvonne Agazarian, Miriam Polster, Scott Rutan, Guy Manater, Mary Jean Paris, Herb Hampshire, John Flowers, William Coulson, and Thomas Bratter apply their respective theories to 6 critical incidents that occur in group therapy. No longer will instructors and students have to guess how these theories would be applied—they will be shown how by the experts. When combined with SYSTEMIC GROUP THERAPY: A TRIADIC MODEL by Jerry Donigian and Richard Malnati, students will be provided with the sum and substance for a course in group therapy/counseling. Not only are students offered the concepts they need to know, instructors will be stimulated to show how these group concepts can be brought to life in their classes.

Editorial Reviews

Review
"An absolute necessity for teaching group leadership skills. Includes comparison of counseling theories and interventions to address critical incidents in group context. Well written, comprehensive; excellent examples provided."

"The uniqueness of this book is the section on the critical incidences and the responses by each contributor. These sections are interesting and most useful. . . . It is a major advantage to have all these approaches in one book. . . . I teach a group therapy course and there is no substitute for using 'critical incidents' as a means of getting students to integrate their knowledge."
