Editorial Reviews
From the Publisher
Today, many people consider Witchcraft to be one of the fastest-growing religions in the world. Articles in newspapers and magazines, as well as movies and shows on television, are filled with Witchcraft. Or rather, what is supposed to be Witchcraft.
I have been involved with Witchcraft for over a quarter of a century and am surprised and disappointed that Wicca is still misunderstood, feared, and even hated.
We asked Scott Cunningham to write The Truth About Witchcraft Today to help dispel misconceptions and give honest answers to those seeking to follow the Wiccan way. Already, over 135,000 people have used this book for one or both of these purposes. If you're interested in becoming a Witch, or want to know the truth about what Witches do, you should get this book too.
This is not meant to be an in-depth study of Wicca. It is an introductory book so you can have the basics: What takes place in Wiccan rituals? What type of magic do Witches use? What holidays do Witches celebrate? What are the deities worshiped by Wiccans?
It's all revealed here, and it's done in the easy-to-read, understandable style that has helped to make Cunningham famous.
One of the purposes I have always hoped this book would fulfill is to help younger people let their parents and friends know that they aren't doing anything illegal or immoral. (In fact, real Witchcraft is a highly ethical religion which stresses personal responsibility for one's actions.) This book will help explain exactly what they are doing.
So, if your parents or friends are open to hearing about what you do and what you believe, here is the perfect book to give to them. It may counter any doubt or distrust. And opening any person's mind to the truth is a good thing in and of itself.

Scott Cunningham's explaination
The Truth about Witchcraft Today! Is a complete work genius! When I went to study Wicca and learn more then I had on my own. This is the book I was given to read First. And I can see why,. It is a composit of layman's terms into the craft. It gives you a few spells to try and explains the reasons why some spells work and some do not! The ideas behind Wicca and some of the Pitfalls...Scott Cunningham was a excellent writer and we in the Wiccan community miss him greatly. This book is the forerunner to many other authors that give the Common Man a look see into Witchcraft and I recommend this to anyone that is interested in the Craft of the Wise!
I need to keep getting this book
As a person who practices Wicca, I'm very happy with this book. I always try to have at least 2 copies - one for myself and another to lend. In the long run, I've had to buy about 6 copies because people keep hanging on to mine!
Honestly, I greatly appreciate this as a fairly balanced book for non-practitioners.
A Distopia
The thought of witchcraft may bring about images of flying broomsticks and bubbling cauldraons, green faced hags waiting to butcher your children and house pets. But did you know witchcraft is really a religion that is officially recognized by the U.S. government? Witches do not recruit people via missionaries, but yet still is among the world's fastest growing religions. Numbers estimate members in the millions to as low as several thousand. This is one of the better disinformation guides I have seen on the subject of witchcraft, and while the deceased author's idea of what is normal may differ from my own, we are on the same page as to what is and what is not practicing witchcraft. Don't believe the Hollywood hype of talk show grabage, find out for yourself. Go to a local pagan shop or seek out a local coven. But be warned- they'll make you think they're your friend because they don't appear to be jocks or corporate or holier than thou religious zealots, and they're even worse than Christian missionaries. Until there are Wiccan characters on mainstream TV stations like CBS, NBC or ABC, it is going to continue to be a third rate religion with juvenile, closeted followers. Like SAtanism, in the hands of more talented people, this could've been a real statement. Instead, the only thing most will say is- get a life.
