From the Back Cover
One of the most comprehensive works about the Gnostics written in English at the time, Fragments of a Faith Forgotten, first published in 1900, introduces readers to the Gnostic tradition through a variety of sources, including the translated works written by the Gnostics themselves.
Gnostic writings are considered apocryphal to the Catholic Church, and as such, many were destroyed or rewritten to remove their objectionable content. To the best of his ability, Mead pulls together bits from many sources to construct a picture of what the Gnostics really believed.
Anyone with an interest in Christianity and its history will be interested to see who these early enemies of Church were and why they frightened the emerging establishment.
