| Wilhelm Reich was a renegade disciple of Freud's who discovered a type of bioelectric energy which he called "orgone," but described in terms very similar to the Hindu "prana," the "chi" of kung-fu, or the "ashe" of Santeria. This lifeforce, Reich posited, could pool up, stagnate, and rigidify within individual humans, expressing itself as sexual repression. psychological projection, and ultimately, political fascism. Reich invented various contraptions designed to mainpulate or beam this "orgone" energy, but fell afoul of the FDA and Postal Service after setting up shop in New Mexico in the 1950s. His books were seized and burned by the American government, and Reich himself died of a heart attack in prison.
