William Blake
Poet, mystic and engraver William Blake is on the short list of authors usually described as "gnostic" by English Literature professors, and the title of one of his most popular collections ("The Marriage of Heaven and Hell") is as good a clue as any to his enduring popularity. A walking rebellion against the Demiurge, he embodied the hippie acid casualty persona hundreds of years before LSD even existed, gleefully recording in verse and beautiful psychedelic imagery his one-man assault on reality, writing hundreds of rhyming exhortations to imagination, joy, and astral travel.
