Capcom has just been too good to us... but WAIT FOR A WHILE
DO NOT BUY THIS FROM THOSE SELLERS WHO ARE TRYING TO CHARGE YOU LIKE 100.00 DOLLARS. If you wait until November Capcom has a Mega Man X Collection coming out for a price of only 30 dollars and you get SIX GAMES!
Mega Man games have truly become a part of our gaming culture, and the Mega Man X series got right off to a great start with the first one! The second one is even better!
In my personal opinion this is the best Mega Man X game of them all so far. The only Mega Man X game that even comes close is X4.
To start off, the "capsules" in this give you more enhanced abilities than in the first one. For example one capsule gives you the ability to dash in mid-air, while another gives you a helmet enhancement to pin-point the location of hearts, other capsules, and more secrets.
The music is probably the best of all the Mega Man X games, and the bosses are defenitely worthy opponents. The abilities are great, and not to mention that there are a lot of them this time around. There are also three side bosses. If you don't defeat them you get a special boss just before the final.
If you enjoyed the first Mega Man X game, then this is defintely worth a look for you.
X2 rules!
This game is, overall, better than the previous X installment. It has a good level of challenge, although once you get the hang of it, the game becomes pretty easy. The weapons, though somewhat dull and uncreative, are still pretty fun to mess around with. For example, changing the weather using your bubble splash, speed burner, strike chain, and crystal hunter in Wire Sponge's stage, and the priceless joy of making Crystal Snail chase his shell around by using the magnet mine on him. This game has awesome replay value, not necessarily cuz of all the secrets, but just because it's so much fun! The graphics are great, not like the first one where there wasn't really definition between colors. One of the best features of the game is the music. The tunes in X were cool, but the tunes in X2 are so cool I've died trying to finger drum along with the music (especially in Flame Stag's level). The only complaint I have about the game is the slow down. I personally think slow down looks pretty neat-o, but only when it's supposed to happen! It's NOT cool, for example, when you're trying to dodge junk being thrown at you by Morph Moth's cocoon form! Fortunately, that flaw is ruled out by the game's overall well roundedness. The gameplay, music, and number of hidden gizmos to find make this game a must have for long time fans and a best buy for people who are new to the series(too bad it's so expensive!).
Mega Man X2 - Easily the best of the SNES Mega Man games.
Although Mega Man 7 on the SNES is a pretty good game too, Mega Man X2 is still substantially better. If I had to rate them all, I'd give Mega Man X a 6, Mega Man X2 a 9, Mega Man X3 a 7, and Mega Man 7 a 7.
Mega Man X2 refines and creates the most fun and interesting version of the Mega Man X formula on the SNES (on the Playstation, the X games are pretty good too though).
What makes this game better than the other Mega Man X games? A number of things:
1- Graphics. The colors are more vivid and well-defined. Not only are the colors graphically superior, but they are chosen more intelligently. In Mega Man X1 and X3 there were a lot of drab and ill-defined browns and yellows that melted into each other. While you may see a little of that in this game, believe me, it's much less than in the other games. The colors are more well-defined and there's a more interesting variety. In the Flame Stag stage, you've got some nice reds and browns. In Crystal Snail's stage, you've got a breathtaking assortment of blues and purples.A tropical setting in Wire Sponge's stage is well represented with greens and yellows. The yellow sands of Overdrive Ostrich's stage are great.
#2- The robot levels are much improved. Wire Sponge's stage is a tropical jungle, but a less generic tropical jungle than, say, Neon Tiger or the Chameleon's stage from other X games. The Crystal Snail stage is even more gorgeous than Gemini Man's stage all the way from Mega Man 3. The Bubble Crab stage starts off with a beautiful sunset and then turns into one of the best underwater levels in any Mega Man game, ever. Wheel Gator's stage is an interesting ride through an armored military vehicle to face the boss in a pit of sludge. Overdrive Ostrich's level is a great, a blistering desert stage that has you riding a motorbike and destroying a rocket ship before all is said and done. Morph Moth's stage takes you through a high-tech junkyard. Flame Stag's stage is a perilous adventure through a number of volcano craters, it's pretty neat. The only stage I have to complain about is Magna Centipede's. It's your utterly generic high-tech factory/lab/fortress level that Mega Man X1 and X3 have far too many of.
#3- The music is very good, a step up from Mega Man X1 and especially X3. X3 is terrible - they use the same 3 music tracks for every stage! From the mysterious tones of Bubble Crab and Crystal Snail's stage, to the harder-edged Flame Stag's stage, the music is memorable and distinctive.
#4- The secrets are the best in the X series. The upgrades are better than fleshed out than other games. The fully-charged boss weapons are actually useful, and the secret finding device was a good addition. And of course, who couldn't love the Dragon Punch upgrade? The secrets are also hidden in some pretty ingenuous ways that you'll appreciate.
In conclusion, this is one of the best Mega Man games I've ever played, including the first Mega Man games. Any fan of the series has to check this game out.
