Greatest space shooter ever
All of my gaming friends agree that this is the finest vertical scrolling space shooter ever made. There are only a handfull of killer Turbografx games (Legendary Axe, Devil's Crush, Military Madness, Galaga 90, etc.) and this one's the best of the bunch. NEC did everything right on this game. Incredible graphics (even by today's xbox standards), excellent sound effects (even the music is perfect), but the best thing is the gameplay. It's an extremely fun game to play. Grab weapon number 2 and build it up (and add multi-bodies) and soon you'll be slicing and dicing through the enemies like butter. Very satisfying. Only M.U.S.H.A. (Sega Genesis) comes close to this experience. You kinda need the Turbostick (TG-16's arcade stick) to really enjoy this game to it's fullest potential, though. If you like space shooters and own a Turbografx system but don't have this game...you need to remedy this situation immediatly! But shop around first (ebay) cuz you can pick it up for $10-$30.
A fun space shooter
In a time where space-shooter were a dime a dozen, Blazing Lazers has long faded into obscurity. But if you come across it cheap (very unlikely it only came out on the Turbo-Grafx and is generally very expensive) I suggest you give it a go.
The game has more in common with shooters like the 1942 series than say, R-Type. There's absolutely nothing special or stand-out about it other than it is simply fun to play. You get the usual power-ups and bosses and stuff and you'll have a good time blasting away at everything. Only problem is that the levels are very long and when you die you'll be sent way back, which is annoying.
