Customer Reviews

Hush, Hush... 5
A haunting tune from the 60s (from the Robert Aldrich flick of the same name) that has stayed with me for years...beckoning...until I finally bought the CD recently.

Love Patti Page. Enjoyable tunes to chill to.

My attitude is, you can appreciate the latest/greatest,etc., but we really shouldn't forget all that good stuff
that came way before, either. Makes you a better rounded individual. Music is music, after all.

Part of a definitive Patti Page collection, but just part4
To make everything I say in this review perfectly clear, I need to give one important bit of information. Most of Patti Page's big hits came on the Mercury label, but for a few years in the mid-1960's she went to Columbia, and had a small number of hits there. On Columbia, she made remakes of her earlier Mercury hits, which can be found on some albums (not this one). And when she came back to Mercury, she did a remake of at least one of her Columbia hits, "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte," which IS on this CD. So, other than "Charlotte," the hits on this CD are the authentic originals, taken from Mercury archives.

The big problem with this CD is that it does not include some of her biggest hits even on Mercury, specifically her earliest ones. This means that for a definitive Patti Page Mercury collection, you need to supplement this with another. Fortunately, ASV has put out a collection entitled "All My Love," which is devoted to her early Mercury years. There is also a collection entitled "The Patti Page Collection: The Mercury Years, Vol. 1," which could also be combined with this one. Either of those, in conjunction with this one, would make a good Patti Page Mercury collection. But by itself, this CD is incomplete.

Something special5
A very odd little collection but noteworthy for including two of Patti's rarest but best singles, the gorgeous waltz "Wondering" and the power ballad "Another Time, Another Place," which just about sums up the entire pop music sound of the late '50s in three musically overwhelming minutes. The rest of the songs are well-known Patti Page millionsellers you don't have already only if you live on Mars.
