Product Description

This charming new title is a collection of over 450 vintage photographs of dogs in all kinds of settings: under the Christmas table and in the sea; posing for a family portrait and being squeezed tightly by an over-enthusiastic toddler; a Chihuahua in a tea cup and a Great Dane standing as tall as its young owner. DOGS is an essential book for dog and animal lovers, presenting amateur, anonymous photographs of dogs from the turn of the century to the early 1950s in ordinary and extraordinary settings. Johnson's collection of photographs, in its unpretentious attitude and days-gone-by aesthetic, presents a snapshot of family life and shows man's timeless relationship with his "best friend."

Customer Reviews

Fantastic in every way!5
Fun, surprising, warmhearted, and quirky. You will love this book. Each time I look at it, I see something new. It is a quality book with hundreds of dogs up to all kinds of mischief and clearly a beloved part of the family. Great gift for animal lovers.

INCREDIBLE!5
If you buy one book this year for a dog lover -- this is the book to buy. I have several dog books with vintage illustrations and this one is beyond any others that I own. It is beyond stunning. I could go on and on about this book I love it so! It is THE perfect dog book to buy as a Christmas (or anytime) gift. Plus -- it is so reasonably priced! Just buy it! Buy multiple copies but be sure to keep one for yourself!

Pleasing Collection of the delight of owning a dog4
As a collector of dog photos and amateur photographer, I enjoyed this book.

The range of breeds included is marvelous as is the volume of photographs included.

The quality of the book (binding, paper) forced me to limit the book to four stars. However, given the price of the book one can still enjoy the content rather than pay through the nose for a huge, glossy, impeccably printed coffee table type book.

If you love or a friend love not just your dog, but all dogs and what dogs mean to our society, this is a worthwhile book.
