Average customer review:Product Description
He is perhaps the greatest sports hero in American history.George Herman ?Babe? Ruth, Jr., was more than just a ballplayer?he was a beloved public figure whose popularity at one time seemed to transcend that of baseball itself. Profane and earthy, ?The Babe? had a warmth of spirit about him that both electrified and inspired the nation. In his lifetime, he set several Major League records?the most notable of which took place in 1927 when he hit a record-breaking 60 home runs in a single season. From his early childhood in Baltimore to the infamous 1919 sale by the Boston Red Sox to his glory years with the New York Yankees, BIOGRAPHY? takes an in-depth look at the immortal slugger who swatted his way into the hearts of baseball fans forever.

Customer Reviews
Very basic account of the Babe's life.
I have to say as a fan of the Babe I was a little dissapointed in this documentary. Without any interviews with family or former teammates it really lacked emotion. It had the feel of an educational film you might have watched on WWII in grade school. For someone that knows very little about the man and his life it might give you some insight, however for the more serious baseball fan I would have to recommend Babe Ruth: The Life Behind the Legend for someone who wants a more detailed look at this American legend.
A&E Biography: Babe Ruth is a strike out
This disc gives very little insight to the life of Babe Ruth. Most baseball fans will know most of the information. The footage is fun to watch, but this disc lacks detail and falls far short of what a serious study on Ruth's life should be. Only brief mention of Ruth's off-field lifestyle (with no details to the rumors that surrounded his time away from the baseball diamond); only a passing on the conflict between Ruth and Gehrig, etc... This seems more like a feel-good news reel of the 30s than an A&E Biography.
