Editorial Reviews
Album Description
With a name based on the fictional school in `The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie', The Marcia Blaine School For Girls is actually comprised of three Glaswegian lads who have been forging their own particular approach to Electronic music for the past few years, melding such disparate styles as American minimalism, Detroit Techno and the blunted groove of Dancehall and then adding their own distinct signature treatments of crushed rhythms and affecting haunting melodies. The ideas run deep, the sense of melodic wonder is profound, and like all decent machine music, soul, humanity and warmth is abundant in it's micro grooves. Highpoint. 2007.
Customer Reviews
With Distinction... six or seven stars would be more appropriate.
I have been listening to this album for a few weeks now, having been directed to it through an article where Scotland's Christ had identified it as one of this years finest electronic releases. Believe. It needs six or seven stars and even that amount would be conservative. If you could imagine every fell stroke of emotion that can be conveyed through beats and synths alone, inspired by the finest moments of Aphex Twin or Bola, washing over and devastating you in less than an hour, you would have summarily described what this album achieves. The Glaswegian lads have put together the first and last recording they will ever have to release, though I can only hope that there is more from whence this musical singularity emerged.
