Average customer review:Product Description
This is the duo's third album, and the title is a reference to a short film by Norman McLaren, the pioneering Oscar-winning animator and electronic composer, who was fond of direct film animation (the technique of physically manipulating or painting on film frame by frame) and stop-start animation. His meticulousness is much like the band's process of composing and sequencing their music. There's a measured restraint that's rarely employed in modern pop music and it's the precision and restraint in the arrangements that serves to magnify what is there. And what is there is exceptional.

Magic lives on
Love the Junior Boys- just can't get enough. Needless to say, I was pleased to hear about this new album! No disappointments, except for maybe the limited number of tracks. That's OK- if greats like Metallica can get away with 8 tracks per album, I'll let these guys get away with it, too.
The point, though, is this: if you're already a fan of the Junior Boys' ethereal sound, sultry lyrics, fantastically listenable blend of electro-pop, dance, down-tempo, etc., then I have no doubt this will become another hit in your book. You just can't go wrong.
If you're not familiar- check this album out! You'll be glad you did. You'll be listening to it all the way through time and time again.
Completely fresh!
Junior Boys are perfect mix of fresh electonic beats with oh so pleasing lyrics and vocals. I was waiting for this one for awhile and right out of the plastic wrap was pleasantly surprised. A bit short at just over 47 minutes long, but definitely worth having in the collection.
Boys to Men
As this decade draws to a close it seems very much in vogue among many electronic artists to try and recapture and update the musical sounds of what was used some 20 years before. I've listened to many bands with that aesthetic and no band I've heard of quality has done this better than Junior Boys, first with So This Is Goodbye and now even more so with Begone Dull Care.
BDC is a more relaxed musical affair from the Boys this time. Nothing here is as musically tense as past tracks like "Double Shadow", "In the Morning", or "More Than Real". The jittery percussive elements of Last Exit have been smoothed over with layers of slick keyboards and pulsating beats. BDC is a very well crafted album and Jeremy Greenspan's vocals are yet another instrument that compliments the instrumental environment almost too well (he has a voice that seems easy to get lost in the music around him).
There are only 8 songs this time around, but it doesn't need any more. The album says what it needs to say then ends without outstaying it's welcome.
