A hallmark in post-rock, and credited with giving the genre considerable artistic and social signifficance. You don't really enjoy it so much as experience it, and everyone should.

Two disc epic that is louder and more immediately powerful than their debut lp. Is it pretentious? Absolutely, but it's still one of the most incredible albums of the decade.

While a little sad, this album is much warmer then Those Who Tell the Truth.

It sucks when your classic album is your first album, as fans and critics won't really want you to evolve your sound or go in new directions. It's a great album, but they're still doing great work.

A little subdued, criminally forgotten. Again, they don't want to make another Young Team.

Like Mogwai, Stereolab made their "masterpiece" early on in their career. But they remain one of the more interesting and fun bands to follow.

They use a lot of drones, and personally, I'm a sucker for drones. They've been venturing further in to ambient recently, which I don't mind, but this, their debut, is stunning.

Growing releases, unless you follow them closely, tend to sneek up on you. I found out about this one the day after it was released and rushed to get the vinyl of it. It sounds great.

If you think their albums are wild, go see them live.

It's a little sad to consider that Tortoise' best work may be behind them (they've kind of plummeted in to mediocrity on they're recent albums) but their early stuff is still worth celebrating.

This is an incredible album. Yeah, it's pretty abrasive (as most noice music is) but it's surprisingly accessible and even enjoyable.

Became one of my favorite albums on the first listen. The only comparison I can think of is a dark Animal Collective.

While often labeled a metal band, Pelican is more similar to Explosions and Mogwai. This EP got them positive attention and remains (arguably) their best release.

Early post-rock, lazily labeled "drug music". You don't have to be high to enjoy it.

Spacemen 3 broke up, but Pierce kept things going as Spiritualized.

Without a doubt the best Silver Mt. Zion album. First billed as a side project for some of the GSYBE guys, but SMZ are still active today while Godspeed isn't.

Veterans of metal who have been moving closer to post-rock with each recent release. This, their most recent, is a great combination of old and new.

It took a while, but this album has grown on me. It does take patience (for most people, anyways) but once it hits you, it'll be one of your favorites.

EP and rarity collection. Great introduction to Mono, has a lot of stunning songs.

After this album, M83 started using more traditional pop structures, but this one remains a post-rock masterpiece.
