Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Hailed as one of the finest guitarists of his generation, GRAMMY award winner Bryan Sutton brings together esteemed players and artists including Bela Fleck, Chris Thile, Tim O'Brien, Hot Rize and Russ Barenberg on this new album Almost Live. The musicians in these sessions reflect just how central Bryan Sutton has become to acoustic music, not so many years after arriving as the fireballing flatpicker in the influential bluegrass revival band, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.

"The aim was to keep these meet-ups simple and spontaneous- to channel the synergy they'd built on stage in the reassuring comfort of the studio. The results have a sizzle and depth that's hard to capture or define." -taken from the liner notes by Craig Havighurst

Customer Reviews

Best CD I've heard since...5
the batch of CDs I bought at Merlefest 2009. Enjoyable from start to finish.

Tasty hot and melodic!5
An outstanding recording by one of the finest flat pickers on the planet! On first listen, I thought it was going to be in the "Spacegrass" style but was pleased with the tasty mix of new and old sounds. Favorites include Wonder Valley Gals (who is the mystery banjo player?) and Loretta's Waltz. The duet with Russ Barenburg titled Dark Island has a wonderfully sad feeling, and Le Pont De La Moustache is an excellent nod to Django.

Bryan's partners in crime include some of the finest musicians in acoustic music; Chris Thile, Bela Fleck, Russ, Time O'Brien, Pete Wernick, Nick Forster (Hot Rize) and others. You should buy this CD!

Country Standard Time reviews Bryan Sutton CD5
Bryan Sutton has a well-deserved reputation as a hot flat-pick guitarist. Here he shows he is not limited to that genre. The opening three cuts are contemporary acoustic melodic tunes, then he breaks into a Norman Blake sounding rendition of "Church Street Blues." [...]
