One of the best books I've read this year. It's about a female alcoholic history professor who is sentenced to prison for killing two people while on a binge. Michelle Huneven will remind you of Stewart O'Nan, but she might even be better.

Somewhat melodramatic in spots, but the theme of what happens to people when their livelihood (the steel industry) is destroyed is well worth reading about.
