Customer Reviews

I'd give this thing 6 stars if I could5
After reading the mixed reviews on this unit, I took a leap of faith, and it met or exceeded my every wish.

I needed a solution for listening to an iPod Touch in my Acura RDX (non-tech). I was mostly concerned with sound and looks.

As for the sound, it sounds the EXACT same as CDs playing through the car's CD player. I have mainly lossless tracks, but I do have some 320 kbps tracks, and they sound fine as well...sorry I don't have anything with more compression, but I bet it would sound the same as it would if you were listening to an MP3 CD at the same compression rate. I get no feedback sounds from the engine, the ac unit, or anything else. I control the volume using the car's steering wheel controls, and find I need to crank it up about 5 ticks to get the volume output to match the volume of a similiar CD.

In the looks department, it couldn't be better for me. I place it in the cigarette lighter so that the gooseneck extends straight out to the right, and this leaves me complete access to the climate controls, etc. Nothing is blocked, yet at the same time it doesn't extend so far out as to interfere with the passenger's knees. This setup also allows for me to close the cover for the drink holders, which is a big plus- I had tried 2 different chargers for my mobile phone before I found one that had a long enough profile to allow me to close the cup holder cover while the charger was plugged in. Also, the wire is the exact length that I need to plug it into the aux port, plus its completely hidden by the unit itself, so it is very sleek looking.

One downside for me is that the steering wheel remote bugged me, so I attached it to an unobtrusive part of the driver's side door handle, which works well for me.

I only wish they would come out with a model that had an input on the side that would allow me to charge my cell phone at the same time, but I don't know enough about these things to know if that's even possible.

Stay Away. Does Not Work.1
I was very excited to purchase this product, thinking that I could use the auxiliary port to make hands-free calls with my new iPhone 3G, and charge it at the same time through the cigarette lighter. BE FOREWARNED. YOU CANNOT. I have a brand new 2008 Honda Civic with an auxiliary port, and when I attempted to make calls, the bluetooth feature, which should be activated when the iPhone 3G is plugged into the auxiliary port, was NOT activated. I knew, however, that the problem did not lie with my car, because when I plugged the iPhone into the car with my own auxiliary cord--not the Kensington one--it worked perfectly. As a result, I, of course, concluded that I simply received a defective product. So, I proceeded, although skeptically, to ask Amazon to send me a replacement for the defective product. They did, and, of course, when I used the replacement, it did not work either. Now, the deficit surely isn't on my part. I am kind of a smart guy, seeing as though I have a PhD, and am a university professor, and it's most assuredly not my car's fault (as mentioned above), so I can only conclude that this product, as I said in the title, simply does not work. DO NOT BUY IT.

not what i expected2
So, i ordered this being an audiophile and was hoping for a "handsfree" phone solution. I was looking forward to the clear direct sound. Note that no one has mentioned that the PHONE part of I-Phone doesn't work, just the I-Pod part of the I-Phone. Sure it charges and you can see the maps and gps, but I was not pleased. Oh. Any BTW, one arm-holder thing works and one arm broke while taking it out of the box~!

Not pleased. I'll be returning it.
