A real help in reading the Bible in one year!5
I'd highly recommend buying "The One Year Bible Companion". The subtitle is "Questions and answers to help you make the most of your daily Bible reading". There are 4 questions and answers per daily reading. Also, the Companion lists the passages to be read for the day at the top, so you could read in this order but with your own Bible, if you don't own "The One Year Bible". The questions help illuminate some of the sometimes confusing OT passages. The Companion also has brief introductions for all the books of the Bible.

A bonus about "The One Year Bible Companion" - the cover is a very durable plastic-like cover. It's very durable and flexible. Just another added feature. And of course, it's available from Amazon! That's where I got mine! :-)

This method of Bible Study is great - this is my 2nd time through it. The first time, I got the reading schedule from Brio magazine and this time I'm using "The One Year Bible - New Living Translation". There are other translations available as well.

Happy Bible Study, everyone!

Makes reading the Bible do-able5
I'm a new Christian and I got this book to help me read the Bible in an organized fashion. I've been contemplating buying a One Year Bible but I didn't want to buy another Bible and this seemed like a good compromise. Before I got this I was becoming overwhelmed by the amount of reading I was doing but this book simplied everything. And it has helpful little notes to explain the more confusing passages. I'm reading less everyday but getting more out of it thanks to this book.

Not as much as I'd hoped for2
Many of the "answers" in this Q&A-format book are gleaned verbatim from the footnotes in the Life Application Study Bible, so if you have one of those, that's strike one. On the plus side, I don't think you can get a One Year Life Application Bible (yet), so this is a good way to put some of the content of that Bible into the One Year format.

Strike two is that there are only 2-4 questions for each day's reading, which means that there often isn't even one question per reading (OT, NT, Psalm, Proverb). And often they aren't exactly the "deepest" questions, either. On the plus side, this brevity keeps the book smaller.

If you're really into the Q&A thing, I recommend a Quest Study Bible -- a cool product with tons of good questions in the margins, great for study, devotion, or impromptu discussion/teaching. Or else you can use the One Year Bible blog to supplement your daily reading. Otherwise, just stick to your One Year Bible and let God's Word do its work.
