Another Great Album
This is a solid new offering from Gaelic Storm. As noted by a previous reviewer, these are not remakes of classic Irish songs. So if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. Gaelic Storm is not just a cover band for traditional songs. Rather, they're inventing their own brand of music, still steeped in traditional riffs and instruments of the genre without being handcuffed to them.


1 - Scalliwag: Contemporary song with a catchy refrain. This is the most "pop" song on the album, and would be a prime selection for radio release, if the radio stations in this country had any taste at all. (9/10)

2 - Me and the Moon: Simply an awesome song, but I wasn't thrilled by the presentation of this studio recording. This is a song that the crowd really gets into, so it should have been recorded live. It should be a high-energy party song, but the album version is more like a gentle ballad. A proper version of the song would be an easy 10/10. Still, high marks for being a good song overall. (8/10)

3 - Never Drink 'Em Dry: The ongoing saga of Johnny Tarr is becoming a franchise staple for the band. Funny and catchy as ever. (9/10)

4 - The Devil Down Below: This is the gem of the album in my opinion. An energetic ballad of the sailors constant battle against the mighty sea. (10/10)

5 - De Luain, De Mairt: Another catchy toe-tapping offering, this one without a word of English. I have no clue what they're saying, but I know I like it. (9/10)

6 - Bare in the Basin: Intrumental classic pipes with a contemporary bassline. A good tune, but not one of my favorites. (8/10)

7 - Kelly's Wellies: A cute song about Wellington boots. Nice refrain and all, but it just didn't do it for me. It was a little too cute, perhaps. (7/10)

8 - Slingshot: A good instrumental break sandwiched between two lower-quality songs. This classic-style fiddle tune shows off Ellery's skills well. (8/10)

9 - Hello Monday: Another song that was a bit too cute for its own good. This one gets my vote for weakest song on the album. It's not a bad song, it just didn't live up to the standard set by the rest of the tracks. (7/10)

10 - The Long Way Home: A completely contemporary song. What's it doing on this album? It's a bit too sappy bittersweet melancholy for my taste as well. Still, a good song, and I'm sure many people will like it. (8/10)

11 - The Salt Lick: Back into the traditional swing after the previous track, this one is purely intrumental. A very nice selection for those who prefer the more traditional sound. (9/10)

12 - Don't Go for "The One": A warning about dropping by the pub just for "the one" quick drink, especially if you have important things to do. (9/10)

13 - Tornado Alley: Another solid traditional-style instrumental offering. Wonderful tune. (9/10)

14 - Kiss Me I'm Irish: This one will bring out all the Bic lighters in the concert. A great drinking song which will cause the crowd to sway back and forth, singing the refrain in unison. This is an awesome final song, and ends with an upbeat instrumental to wrap it up. (10/10)

Gaelic Storm's Best Yet!!!
This is easily my favorite of any of the Gaelic Storm cd's I own. I bought it simply on the merits of "Me & the Moon"(Track #2) which I saw them perform live prior to this albums release. Each track is better than the next. My two young daughters sing along with "Kiss Me I'm Irish" (Track #14)every time I play it in the car (Future GS fans.) Highly recommended!!!!! And I suggest anyone that gets the chance see this group in concert. You will not be disappointed.

Invigorating and Fresh
This is a wonderful collection of invigorating and fresh songs with a Celtic flair to them. A few are instrumental pieces but most are songs and they are all a joy to hear.

The instrumental pieces are the more "classical" in the sense that they could have been done at an earlier time. The songs, though, have a youthfulness about them that screams "modern" but does so without losing the cultural heritage or style. Most are fun songs. All are great songs.

This is an album to enjoy!
