Love over Money
This was one of my favorite movies as a child, I couldn't resist reviewing it. Danny is bought for spoiled little rich girl Andrea Cummings, her father buys her the pony because Danny is supposed to have won a lot of blue ribbons. Janie Neely lives near by the stable and volunteers there, because she loves horses. Janie loves Danny, but Andrea treats him cruelly, resulting in a poor performance in a local horse show. Back at home, Danny then performs well for Janie, but becomes lame shortly after, and Andrea's father declares him a lemon and decides to sell him.
A heartbroken Janie tries to keep this from happening. She is unable to change the mind of Andrea's father, but a `mysterious benefactor' buys the pony for Janie, who in return must work at the stable to pay for Danny's upkeep and to repay the debt. Andrea's father buys her a new horse, a fancy thoroughbred named Midnight Star, and Janie is to care for it as well, while spending countless hours tending to Danny's lameness. When he recovers, he is able to be ridden again, and Janie and Andrea now become competitors.
Danny is still labeled a lemon by Andrea and her father, but Janie knows otherwise. Midnight Star is exactly what Andrea's father wanted, an expensive show horse, and Andrea is expected to bring home nothing less than blue ribbons. When Danny and Midnight Star compete against one another in a horse show, Janie is able to prove that love and kindness go much farther than money and unfair expectations ever could. Though the very end of the movie may disappoint some, I loved it as a child and continue to love it to this day, as it was very clear to see that real, pure love is never based on performance.
I was thrilled to see that this movie is now on DVD, I can't wait to share it with my children one day. It has a wonderful lesson in it, the title song at the end says it best: "You have nothing to fear, when you give all your love, and all your love comes back to you."
A great girl and her horse movie!!
Rebecca Page plays a poor girl who comes across an injured horse. She names the animal Danny, nurses it back to health, and grows to love it. The problem is that the horse had previously been sold off to a wealthy family, whose spoiled daughter , having previously rejected Danny because of his injuries, now wants the horse back. Who will emerge triumphant?
This is one of those happy feel good movies thats great for the whole family to enjoy. This is a great G rated movie you will enjoy!
Its also great that this movie has finally made it to DVD!
There are a few extras on the DVD, one being the trailer and the other is a "Making of" feature which is just music being played as production stills are shown of the director and some of the stars of the movie. These are color photos.Having these extras is a nice little touch to a great little movie!!
Best Movie Ever
I absolutely love this movie. This was my favorite movie when I was a kid and I never imagined it being put on DVD. I used to watch it over and over. Now that I have it again, I still am watching it over and over. My husband even began to like it.
