Paralegal Procedures and Practices5
Paralegal Procedures and Practices

By Scott A. Hatch, J.D. and Lisa Zimmer Hatch, M.A.

Rather than spending a few thousand dollars on tuition for a course to learn the essentials of paralegalism, I decided to teach myself by purchasing several self-help books including Paralegal Procedures and Practices by Lisa and Scott Hatch. This book was very logically written, beginning with background exercises that help explain the American judicial system. It supplies detailed instruction on legal document preparation and legal research-both manually and electronically.
The pedagogic approach used by the authors requires that readers devote a fair amount of time in a law library where they are thoroughly indoctrinated to legal research. After completing the assignments in this well-organized book, readers will have developed an efficient and effective approach to legal research that can be used to continue their study of law. It is advisable to combine the practical study of law presented in Paralegal Practices and Procedures with the theoretical framework set forth in a book such as Untangling the Law by Christine Woolever. I highly recommend these books.

Sincerely,
Mark Donahue

Paralegal Procedures 5
For anyone entering the paralegal field, this is an excellent textbook. The exercises are challenging and to the point! This gives you the skills needed to become a Paralegal provided you take the course from a local college.

Paralegal Procedures and Practices 2nd edition5
After completing a Paralegal certificate course a few years ago, I purchased this new edition, simply for review purposes, and I found this second edition to be even more helpful than the first edition.

This book contains a lot of updated information on such topics as legal research (manually as well as electronically), and legal document preparation, which are essential for any paralegal, or student taking a paralegal course. There are also new exercises in this book that relate to business and corporate law.

I highly recommend Paralegal Procedures and Practices, 2nd Edition, and wish to thank the authors for writing such an incredibly helpful second edition.
