Album Description
With golden voice and silver-dipped pen Grant-Lee Phillips presents another milestone in a career brimming with the like. Little Moon is track after track of well-anchored classic American music - Rock and Folk swirl under clouds of cinematic strings for a primer on the art of the timeless tune. His legendary well of melody is in full display on Little Moon, with even the most lilting piano ballad standing comfortably on a thick, powerful trunk ('Older Now'). Long one of Los Angeles' most sought after songwriters, Grant-Lee meets Little Moon with positive inspirations including the birth of his daughter Violet ('Violet') and a creative calm that saw the songs well up organically from earlier live collaborations with drummer Jay Bellerose, producer bassist Paul Bryan and keyboardist Jamie Edwards. Captured live in the studio with limited overdubs, the album keenly chronicles the sunny day feel of the songs and that ever-elusive in the moment groove of a finely-tuned band working out equally finely-crafted material.

Marvelous 12 track masterpiece by one of our greatest songwriters!5
Little Moon is possibly Grant-Lee Phillips finest work since Mighty Joe Moon while he was still with Grant Lee Buffalo. All 12 tracks roll together seemlessly and the lyrics are stellar. It's a fairly mellow album, but it's inspiring and moving in it's own right. Some of the stand out tracks for me include "Good Morning Happiness", "Strangest Thing", "Violet" (for his little girl), "One Morning", and "Older Now". But, it's "Buried Treasure" that gets me the most of all the songs. The crunchy organ accents an excellent lyrical content....."oh baby, don't you know we've all got sunken treasures down at the bottom of the blue. But old Poseidon, he can't keep it there forever 'cause I can see the gold in you."

Anyone who's a fan of Grant Lee Buffalo or Grant-Lee Phillips will be thrilled with this album and greatful to count GLP among our greatest songwriters. But, for those who've yet to hear his extremely warm voice and acoustic guitar driven alternative rock/balladry you will be quite pleasantly surprised by this artists gift for capturing your soul's deepest heart strings. He's created a gem of an album.

Excellent album!5
This is a great album, hands down. It's a "feel good" and lighthearted collection of songs with some subtle emotional tracks thrown in for good measure. It is probably one of the most "radio friendly" albums Grant has ever done besides "Virginia Creeper".

For those of you wanting another Grant Lee Buffalo album, it's high time you get over it. You have had over 10 years to cope... it's time to move on! Grant Lee Buffalo was an amazing band, but no one can really argue that it wasn't primarily due to Grant Lee Phillips voice, songwriting and charisma. Well guess what, those characteristics transcend genre and style. Don't get me wrong, if Grant ever put a rock band together again and cranked up his acoustic guitar distortion and howling vocals I would be first in line for the album/concert, or whatever. But, if you are a fan of Grant, you gotta open your mind and appreciate the different chapters he has gone through and is still going through as a musician and songwriter.

Grant is still Grant and his amazing voice and clever songwriting really shine through on this album. The band he put together compliments the songs well. I especially enjoy the string and piano arrangements. I hope he can pull together some sort of group for his tour, because I really think these arrangements would translate well to a live performance. However, even if it's just Grant and his guitar, if you have seen him live before you know it is worth it. Grant's charisma always shines through in his performances. Every time I've seen him live I feel like I am hearing/watching him perform like it's the last show he'll ever do. Plus there is always the stand-up comedy he throws in there as an added bonus.

Buy this album. Pop it in the 'ol CD player if you are old-school, or get it on your ipod. Sit out on a porch somewhere. Kick back with some hard lemonade and enjoy another chapter in the career of a one-of-a-kind singer/songwriter.

Buy this and download bonus tracks from the web too!!5
Grant Lee Phillips is an excellent singer and songwriter. Whether it was back in the 90's with Grant Lee Buffalo ( I discovered them with the Might Joe Moon album, which is one of my all time 10 best albums), or as a solo performer today, GLP has written some mighty fine songs. Little Moon could be the preeminent effort of them all! Certainly more mellow than anything he's done other than Virginia Creeper, this album is nonetheless a listening pleasure. Some of my early stand out favorites are Buried Treasure, Older Now, Good Morning Happiness, and Nightbirds, but really they are all good. Trust me. There are even some hints of the old GLB stuff in songs like Good Morning Happiness (the guitar sound particularly). But as good as this album is, there's even more. The CD comes with a web offer from YEPROC records for some bonus material. I checked this out and found out that five demo verions of some of the songs are available. And they are downright awesome! They're mostly accoustic versions, except for the Little Moon, which is just a different version. These demo versions sound great and are a wonderful counterpart to the actual versions of the songs on the CD. You will not be dissapointed. Buy this CD!
